Windows 7 error code 0x8007045d during clean install.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals; done

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. If an EFI BIOS, enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI. Save changes and Exit. done (word for word).

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here. Have licensed ISO right from windows in a 8GB USB (set it first as boot then HDD like you said above).

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART done
LIST DISK done
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #) Confirmed as 0 HDD
CLEAN at first I got I/O error but I restarted and tried again and it cleaned...so hopefully that's not a bad sign
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired) my size says 465GB so that =476160 and done
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7" It's taking some time so I am hoping it's working functionally now.

this an update so far. again thanks for your concern and help Greg, I'll keep you posted.

It's still at 0% after 20 minutes, wondering if this is correct and if it's correctly making a partition. Not trying to waste your time. Thanks.

If you received an I/O error earlier and now Format is stalling out then you could have HD problems.

I'd let it run to see if it will format, which might involve quarantining bad sectors so that some of the HD is useable - that's one function of formatting.

If you don't want to wait any longer at some point then I'd test the HD with maker's HD Diagnostic
extended CD scan followed by Disk Check if you can make a partition.

An alternative is to use free Partition Wizard CD HDD surface test , then Partition Wizard Create Partition Video Help followed by Partition Wizard Check File System.

If the HD is good then create and format the partition with PW CD, try install.

Alright, it's already 1AM here in VA so I'm going to let it run and if it changes at all, I'll report back later in the morning.
