Strange that it should be trying to create AppData. That folder should already exist.
Also I can't find any Vbox entries in my AppData folder. I have the latest version installed.

Actually I'm wrong. The .VirtualBox folder is in your user directory so I don't know why it would even be accessing AppData.

VMware had some probs also in running the latest release -- there were 2 get arounds 1) run as administrator and 2) finally your user had to be added to a special group called _--vmware__ 2 underscores each sinde of the VMware text. This fixed the problem fror VMware so it didn't need admin and ran fine.
I don't know if VBOX needs some sort of fiddling also to work -- I don't know if when installing you can customize the directories (it shouldn't be a problem for the VM's themselves).
Another good source of info is to look on the Linuxquestions.org forum for any problems with installing VBOX too -- although Linux it will show if there are similar problems with VBOX and guide you to some links with possible solutions.

Checked all possible forums, posted on VBox forums. Issue remains. Tried everything, run installer as admin. Nothing works. I simply can not install VirtualBox.
My restore points allow me to go back only to two days after this issue occurred, so no help there.

No s**t, I am going to do a factory reset. Have other issues, too, and I am already behind my normal schedule, restoring and re-installing every 6 months.
No patience anymore, resetting the rig always works for me
