I am trying to install my printer to my wireless network, but I keep getting an error message that I am not the administrator on this computer. This is my personal computer, so don't know why I would not be the administrator. I did set up a homegroup and add my printer and all my documents, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. Please help right away! Thanks.

Dont double click the installer to run it, instead right click it and choose "run as administrator"

Fix did not work

Maybe I'm not doing the right thing, but I load the printer CD, and it comes up with a message that says 'Run setup.exe', and does not allow me to right click, then it runs through until I get the other message that says 'Run as' in the box, but it won't let me, and tells me to logout and have the administrator log in to complete the setup.

Put the CD in and click cancel when you get the autorun prompt to run setup. Then browse to the CD though explorer. Then right click the setup.exe file and select "run as administrator".

Still no luck - I show the administrator account, but still get the same error that 'this system does not meet the minimum requirements required to install this product.

There must be some other problem, since I have previously installed my printer using this CD several times on different computers.

Can I just get the drivers online to see if that resolves the problem?

Thanks for your help.

Did you try following Alpha's post? by not using the autorun dialogue, and browsing to the setup.exe on the disk as a means to getting the right click option.

Other possibilities include the spooler service being disabled. Please type services into the start menu and check that spooler is started and set to auto.

I did try that option, and it didn't work. I typed services, and have a really long list of services, but don't specifically see anything regarding a spooler, however, I have noticed that when trying to run the install, sometimes the DOS menu has come up, and it looks like it is turning the spooler on and off.

Thanks for your help, but I give up - nothing I try seems to work, and I don't understand because I've never had this problem before. The only change to this computer is that we recently changed our Internet service to Verizon FIOS, but I can't imagine that making a difference.

I guess I'm just not savvy enough, and really need a step by step - I'll just use the printer by attaching to a USB for now, then hire a computer tech to fix it for me.

Thanks anyway.

If you can install the printer via USB without hitting the same problem then do that.

You can then simply make it work wirelessly by changing the port for it to it's IP address.

And yes, get the latest drivers for the printer from the manufacturers website.

More info on Error message when installing printer

I had a technician remote into my computer, and he had the following to say about the issue (see below in blue). I believe it is a reputable shop, just not sure they know how to fix this particular problem:

I understand what he is saying, but we have a Toshiba computer, and I was able to download he software from HP with no problem on that computer, so I don't see why the same download would give me an error on a different computer, unless the problem is with the computer itself. I just want to make sure I am not spending money needlessly to fix this problem.

Thanks.
{Quote}I have a grasp of what the problem is, but I will likely have to come to your home to get it fixed.

The HP printer software has a bug that prevents it from installing correctly. The software gets extracted to a temporary directory, and then it is supposed to install from there.
HOWEVER, the software's parameters expect it to extract to and install from a folder "7zS458b". The folder it extracts to is named something else. I renamed the folder to "7zS458b", and the software began installing. Once the software was nearly finished, the install failed with a similar message to before. The HP program then quit, removed itself, and rebooted the computer. It kicked me out as a result, and naturally I cannot connect again.

After some research other people are also having this trouble. HP really makes sh*#y software packages; I have seen troubles with them far more than any other printer manufacturer.{Unquote}

Yes I have worked around HP Printer Drivers failing on laptops before (in both XP and 7 recently).

I would expect around 30mins labor. And perhaps discuss a fixed rate in advance over a per hour fee.

Edit:
Also the spooler is actually called "print spooler" in sevices.

Have you tried downloading the latest version of the driver from the HP website.

The error message given in your original post
Still no luck - I show the administrator account, but still get the same error that 'this system does not meet the minimum requirements required to install this product.
could be related to the operating system version or failure to detect hardware etc.
