I have a brand new HP laptop that I have set up. I have add all of the updates, including Service Pack 1. I have tried to load Kaspersky Internet Security 2011. It downloads just fine, but when I try and run the file I get Error opening file for writing. There is no error code associated with this nor is the a dll indicated. Nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm about to pull out my hair.
thanks, p

Congratulations on the new laptop.

i see you have received a work-around for your problem.

Let me suggest another approach.

Forget kaspersky ( and yes I've used Kaspersky before).

I recommend the least interfering, smallest footprint, FREE, fantastic Anti-virus and protection software available, namely, Microsoft Security Essentials. There is a link to Microsoft Security Essentials in my signature.

This is the same anti-virus package that you would be receiving from Microsoft if you were an enterprise customer.

Automatically your firewall will be set up. Automatically, the first time and thereafter monthly, the microsoft rootkit remover will be updated and run to get rid of the real obnoxious guys. Your anti-virus definitions will be updated as frequently as you desire. Microsoft updates the database very frequently. I update daily.

This is the only antivirus software that I will install on a computer.

Now I'll get off of the pulpit.
Enjoy your new laptop and yell if you have questions.

Kaspersky Problem Solved

Thanks to everyone who took the time to answer my question. A Guy, you are my hero! I did what you suggested and loaded the security software. This is a computer that I purchased for someone even more knowless than I, so beefed security was a necessity!

I will send the info to my turbo nerd friends who also tried to help and to Kaspersky.

thanks,
p
