I've been using NOD32 for a few years now through XP, Vista and it will be the one I'll use when I put Windows 7 on here.
I'll stick with the built in firewall unless I have problems and if I do I might go back to the rest of the time with my purchase of Online Armor, if they have a compatible version for Windows 7

The ESET firewall kinda sucks. Which version of ESS do you have? I m running v 4.0.437 and have no problem using it. You are on a lower version, update to the latest and see the change.

Same here 4.0.437.

The firewall sucks? How so? Why are you using it then and if you have no problem, why does it suck?

I mean to say that the firewall sucks on previous versions of ESS but in the latest version, they have fixed it. Still, many people are using ESS 3.

At first I had some problems with ESET (It let in some viruses) But after configuring ESET and turning on advanced heuristics its really rock-solid. I use it on all my PC's!

yeah, this was my issue. It would work one day and not the next. As we have a businesses licence at work i have had it on all my PC's at home as well and until i went W7 i had no issues at all but then i started having all sorts of connection problems and errors. Tired it on new installs with the same results.
Im happy with W7 firewall anyway now and i use MSE for AV but i will go back to Eset once the problems are ironed out.

How mutch does ESET cost? I see it at newegg for $30 OEM, but for like $80+ on their website =/

Which one is it

NewEgg currently carries only the antivirus (NOD32) for $29.99.

The Smart Security Suite that also includes the firewall can run a bit more, and currently runs about $89 for one user for two years on their website.

Make sure you're looking at the right product and for the right time period.

Sometimes the OEM Smart Security can be found for one year in the $30-40 range, but places are usually sold out.

I'm currently running avast 4.8 professional, but I am also looking for a good firewall that will let me inform me when any applications are attempting to call out and allow me to allow or block traffic at my will similiar to Little Snitch on the MAC.

I was considering using ESET since it has both built into one and I wouldn't be adding different software vendors in the security section causign problems.

Could anyone in the know let me know what your thoughts on this is or should I just use zone alarm or Commodo or something?

No contest dorfdad. small footprint, firewall can be run in interactive mode, you can create any rule you ever thought of, and the AV is great. Im a former zone alarm afficionado but Eset Smart security is better.

Thanks Ken Im going to look heavily into it, however seeing the post above you they stated that they do not support Windows 7. Meaning the application isnt designed to work properly or at full capacity with windows 7 am I reading this right?

ESET is by far and wide the best you can get!

Works great in the x64 build of 7600 too.

i always found Avira Anti-Virus to detect the most and not hog your pc. There's a free version too that works well.

Not supporting win 7 yet means that the "official" software isnt certified for win 7 yet. Its bullet proof on 32 and 64.

i guess you are waiting for avast 5 internet security. it'll have firewall too.
