Why didn MSE show I had a threat?

I was suddenly getting pop-up ads even though I have Ad-Blocker. I ran a scan with MSE and when it was over indicated there were no issues, but when I looked in the History tab, there was an item there. I deleted it, but now I can't remember what it was, but so far, no pop-ups. I think I got form a chat room message board. I wanted to know why MSE didn't indicate I had a virus. I update the definitions daily and have no other virus software installed.

There several threads here already which address this issue. MSE on W7 definitely receives malware definition updates, and they are the same ones Windows 10 and 11 receive. If the app is not updating, you have to install some tweaks, but again this has been addressed several times here. Search the forum.

Get a real antivirus such as Avast Free.

Avast in now owned ny Norton, which renamed itself GenDigital and ate most of the smaller AV companies. I would not use any Norton product again. I use MSE in preference to Avast & the other Little Nortons.

Avast is literally the absolute worst option for an Anti-Virus out there. Its very sketchy and the actual virus, as you cannot fully remove it from your system.

Your best Anti-malware is the Brain.
