"Ethernet" Connection Drop

Any updates here
Someone must have the answer
its a very comom problem

I agree...I have Marvel Yukon NIC's in my PC so the problem is not just with Realtek drivers. I have have had very solid DSL connection for a long time and since I have installed RTM version, I am getting drops/resets frequently.

I would be happy to give it a go. I know you have done this before but could you detail the problem once more (and things you have done so far) so that I dont have to re-read this thread back to the dawn of time?

Thanks, and thanks for filling in your system specs.

Well, I will summary my problem first. I installed windows 7 RTM ultimate 64x dual boot with vista. I connected my internet via my uni proxy. The network is totally fine with vista, no dropage. But with windows7, the net will work for a period (10 mins to 30 mins) then suddenly it will say "cable unplugged" or should I say network disconnected . After 1 mins or so it reconnects itself and keep doing on/off all the time. I have tried fresh installation of windows with update lasted driver of my network card Realtek, I even tried to use windows 7 recommended driver but its old compared to the one on the realtek website but either way, nothing has worked. I have also tried everything on the forum that people mention that it worked for them but up to now none proves useful to me.
Hope you can help

Hi first thing I notice is that vista is 32 bit and win 7 64. Are there any other computers on you LAN? tell us about your network set up. Im assuming your disabled IPv6 in network and sharing, and have turned off RDC as well.

I have subscribed to this thread so anytime something is posted I will get email.

Let us know your results

I'm living in a dorm so I'm pretty much connected to every computer in my dorm if this is what you mean LAN network. And yes I have disabled IPv6 and sharing, basically everything people have mention on this thread. Is win 32x and 64x that much different in term of internet connection? Atm i gave up windows 7 since I cant play online ( the frequency is alot more when i'm using the net) and my mate is hating me for this lol.

Im not going to say but 64bit does have a more difficult time with drivers. video, audio, networking, etc. you could always dual boot 32 bit and 64 to see what the differences are between them. Could you ask the dorm for help with networking?

The IT in my UNi said, since windows 7 is not officially out yet so they will not help me with the situation. And besides, since my vista OS works, I dont really think it has anything to do with the network here, just the OS maybe. Should I install windows 7 32 bit then ? If that the case I will have to download it again since I only have win 64 bit :(

Yep you will have to download it again. What release version are you using (ie 7600). that might also be problematic. In networking what do you see? any other computers? have you set up a homegroup, or a workgroup? there are still tons of things to try if you want to.

Let mw know how I can help

I'm using windows7 RTM -7600. In the network, I see other people computer. As I said, when the network is working, It work fine like vista, then it just said cable unplugged and then refreshed itself and work again. It keeps on/off like that. I changed my workgroup name to my name since 1 guys in the IT said it could due to the difficulty of workgroup discovery with the standard name.

I also suggest trying the x86 version. I have a dual-boot of x86 and x64 Win 7 on my ASUS p5w-dh-deluxe (with the Marvel nics) and I "seem" to have my major problems when I boot up the x64 version. But frankly, I have 5 different Win 7 computers booting on my home network and have seen this mysterious drop on each one...usually when I boot.

but will x86 recognise all 4Gb ram of mine. Since I have x86 vista dual boot, i'm pretty sure it cant address all of my ram. But I will try to get it when I am back home... been spending alot internet credit on x64 RTM and RC already >.<

I didn't have a connection drop since I installed WinXP drivers.

I will probably try the latest Realtec driver when doing a fresh install for 7600.

OS: windows 7 RTM ultimate 64x dual boot with Vista business 86x

seems tha most ppl using x64 and playing games is having problems. On more forums than you can believe. x64 is causing problems.

I have 2 laptops with Marvel NIC drivers, and NO problesm, yes all my systems are x86. I also have 2 systems on Realtek NIC drivers, Yes x86.
No problems and Yes I do play some games...
No, I do not use X64. you might try that an see if x86 gives you the problems.

Yes, you can utilize all 4GB of RAM, there is a patch for x86...
now would you rather use all the memory or lose the Internet connection.
They hate you for dropping Internet connections, not because you have 4GB ram. I hate you cause you have 4GB ram. I only have 3GB.

Is there any1 in this forum using win7 x64 and doesnt have this problem? If he is a pro can you come here and answer us some question. Eventhough it is hard to believe that MS really made people hate x64 but It seems it is the case. X64 failed. (I might need to wait couple weeks until I can dl again >.< damn X64)
