I have recently noticed a warning being logged by Event Viewer, which is as follows:

Updates to the IIS metabase were aborted because IIS is either not installed or is disabled on this machine. To configure ASP.NET to run in IIS, please install or enable IIS and re-register ASP.NET using aspnet_regiis.exe /i.

This occurred after I installed a game via steam, after which several updates published in 2011 were prompted to be installed at shutdown. The installation took a fair amount of time, and when I next turned on my computer, the error above was logged for the reason in the title of this thread.

I would like to know if this is an error that I should worry about, or if I can safely ignore it. Note that I have MSE installed and have run a complete system scan, and no viruses were found. Also note that from what information I was able to get off the net IIS has something to do with running a web server, which I am not doing.

I do not see a component with that name. I do, however, see two items called Internet Informational services, which are both off and are mentioned in the error message and mention ASP.NET in their tool tip. Will allowing these to run fix my issue, and if so which do I turn on? One is simply IIS and the other is IIS Hostable Web Core
