Event 5, Kernel General

Update:

The "error" no longer shows up in the Event Viewer....

Apparenty once the registry backup that contained the corrupted hive file was deleted (by Windows) after the allocated space for backups started forced deletions, the VSS now longer copies the backup file.

LOL, we can call this the autosolving problem. Probably it's being fixed by one of the updates from Windows, and there we go :D

I'm not sure if either of you (or anyone new with the issue) is still following this thread, but we are noticing the same issue. We have about 5 identical computers that are exhibiting the issue. It's odd, because we have another 20+ Windows 7 machines (different hardware configuration though) that don't get these errors at all. The other 20 systems run the same software as this system. It does seem like it's related to backups/VSS. For the OP who mentioned Paragon, where you getting errors with Paragaon or was it just an assumption Paragon was a contribitor? Where your backups all successful? It seems to point towards a "corrupt registry backup" in a system restore point (which would explain why you both said it went away over time).

What we can't figure out though is why this happens on all these identical systems, but not all the others that run the same backup software.

Odd . . . We definitely see the same event 5 kernal error, the same ntfs 55 event error, and an application error for Windows Error Reporting.

More than likely disabling System Restore to clear the restore points would take care of the issue, but the question is why is it occuring on all this identical hardware and will it occur again if we manually delete the system restore points (or wait for THIS corrupted one to fall of).

Any replies are appreciated, thanks!

Everything we said here were just assumptions, while trying to figure out what was causing the problem. Since the last format this error never occured again, but I don't have any backup utility installed at the moment (can't afford to renew the license right now, have to wait until xmas, I just hope my pc won't blow up before). My guess is for a driver compatibility issue, and surprisingly it looks like Windows solves this problem by itself, but I really have no clue when, how and what's causing it. On the other hand, the problem doesn't seem to be harmful, I could always create backups with no errors and everything worked fine. So, you can probably ignore it if System Restores and backups work fine, and maybe one day we'll all be able to figure it out

hi all,
sorry for it being so long since the last post. i am having the same problem.
what intrigues me is that i also have all the power settings disabled as i am using the computer as a data logger - so it doesnt sleep, never powers off etc. its not connected to internet, runs no antivirus. the only think it runs is winwedge from taltech and it seems to be fine. connected to 6 serial ports at once. echa log file is a days worth of data and it time stamps it as well. 3 files are each about 10mb/day the other 3 are each about 3mb/day.

(sorry if text below isnt perfectly accurate, computer is out in a paddock in middle of nowhere and all i had to write on was my hand)

the error was in systemroot\system32\config\regback\SOFTWARE

it was error code 5 and a hive registry error. i've had it a few times. it hangs the computer an stops the data logging which is a problem.

i seem to recall disabling windows updates last time it happenned so that it didnt interfere with the running of the computer, given there is no net available.

computer had been running for about 2 weeks non stop. not sure if its 32 or 64 bit.

would really liketo get to bottom of this one.
thanks
matt
