Every once in awhile my screen freezes, goes to black, and then recovers with a message that the display driver stopped working and has successfully recovered. I checked the event viewer and the Event ID is 4101. In the details it says "Display Diver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." My computer is a Sony Vaio VPCCW17FX and my display driver is a GR Force G210 M. This started happening after I downloaded an update from VAIO Update awhile back. I have tried to go on NVIDIA's website and manually download the driver, but that hasn't worked either.

Sounds like you need to uninstall your nvidia drivers and re install them.

first go to your run/search bar in the start menu and type in "create restore point" then click on it or hit enter when it appears at the top of the list. This will open a window and you're looking for the create button click it type in a name like nvidia and then ok. Wait till it's done you'll get a completion message.

Go to:

Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

Search for your drivers, download them.

Uninstall your older drivers AND DO NOT RESTART THE COMPUTER,

Install the new drivers then restart.

This should fix your issue.

PS: never ever let windows updates install drivers for hardware or software that isn't built into windows. You should set your windows updates to inform you that there are updates available and then when you go look at the list you uncheck any non microsoft items and usually you should be ommitting the optional updates .
