Every Steam game lags!

Yes, every game in my Steam Library lags.
The games are..

Bastion
Terraria
Alien Zombie Megadeath

I fixed Terraria by setting the Multi-GPU/Mixed GPU option in Nvidia Control Panel to Compatible. The rest still lags, it's sometimes fixed by being in the game for a while, or changing the resolution back and forth.

So I also have Farcry 2, which is not in Steam, and that runs perfect. I also tried to uninstall-reinstall Steam with the games, didn't work either.

Any ideas?

erm, not sure if it will help, but try turning off 'enable steam community in game'.



steam did get hacked last week, so it's also a good idea to change your password too, in case somebody else is accessing your account.

when you say the games lag, what do you mean exactly?

is your cpu usage very high, or bad ping or what?

Hmm.. my CPU is all new and running normal. It has nothing with the ping either. Its like drawbacks, every second, same space in between. While Farcry requires more and runs better.

Is you card on the low end and have you turned down the resolution?

I did a search, the box in upper right corner, for Steam lagging, so while help is coming you might want to
check some of those posts out.

I don't have any Steam games (or even a Steam account), so I can't help you with specifics. However, here are a couple of questions that might help others.

1. Have you always had this problem, or has it just happened recently?
2. If only recently, did it first occur last week when the Steam servers were hacked?

If both answers are affirmative (yes), then it could well be that Steam itself is still in the process of sorting their servers out and, due to the reduced capacity available, it is inevitable that more lag than is desirable will be present (some lag will always be present). If this is the case, then you should find an improvement in performance (and a reduction in lag) once Steam have finished their maintenance.

this may not be of any relevance but i recently had a few issues with games stuttering, i managed to fix it by unlinking the RAM and FSB of the CPU (frequency) for some reason the linked frequency was casuing my RAM to come up with RAM Buffer underrun problems.

(what i mean by un-linking is just slightly overclock your processor so it isn't in sync with the RAM)

I will search soon! Btw, my graphic card is all new, it's the ASUS GTX 560 TI Overclocked to 900MHz. But as Farcry works, I would not blame any of my hardware.

I'd say all this happend after the upgrade I made on my PC. All I didn't upgrade, was my HDD, so I run everything on my HDD right now (Windows, Steam, Pics etc)

My computer is all new and the hardware is awesome. So I don't think it has anything to do with it.

Also thanks to Mickey for posting this in the VIP section. Maybe I should wait a week or so and see if Steam is balanced after the hack.

I'm getting an SSD soon so I have to reinstall Windows. It might maybe get fixed after.

For the future, I will try a game that won't run in Steam, Battlefield Bad Company 2 would be a good place to start as I have it in my Origin Library.

Not sure what's going on here but I've been playing Skyrim, a Steam based game, and there are no issues whatsoever.

Anyway as a shot in the dark you can try updating your DirectX Files - Update your Direct X files and see if that helps.

Also, again, another shot in the dark, make sure Steam, and all it's associated games are allowed to run through Windows Firewall. They should be anyway because they typically won't start if they aren't allowed, but you never know. Anyway see step 11 here - Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues. You might also check it for other suggestions as well.

You also might see about getting the latest drivers for your video card, if that hasn't been stated already.

I tried to update the DirectX but the wizard told me that I had a newer version installed. The things thats bugging me is that Farcry runs perfecter than the most simple games!

"Is it a fresh install of eve? if not got to your eve folder then the bin folder and finally the direct x folder inside you'l find DXsetup run this and you'll be back in eve in no time"

Would this be something you could do for your other games you are trying to Steam?

Thanks mate! I believe all games uses the DirectX right? I did this with Bastion but in that case it was XNA, or .NET I don't recall. But in some game there might be a DX-folder.

And I think you misunderstood, Facry is running perfectly out of Steam, I didn't bought it at Steam. It's all the Steam games that's lagging.

Oi!

I noticed when I looked up Steam on the Nvidia Control Panel, it said that it was Adapted and not seated to the Global Setting. If I put it on Global Setting, which is also Adapted but I still believe it's some sort of forced, then it goes back to Adapted and not Global.
That's certainly interesting isn't? I did not touch it btw.
