Every update gets stuck installing

Windows update always gets stuck installing the first update. This happens during shutdown or when manually starting the updates. It always installs update 1 of many and stays there for hours. It does not matter which upgrade that is (deselecting all but one does not help).

I have followed internet instructions to delete the update folder several times. It does not solve the problem. A script from the internet that reregisters the dlls in addition to deleting the folder didn't help either

Another widespread tip is to manually download and install two kb updates. The install of the first of them always hangs (for hours) with the progress bar almost finished.

Autopatcher seems to install updates but they are not actually installed afterwards (I tested by selecting IE 11. I still have 8 although it seemed to install successfully)

This is a clean install on a previously empty disk. No virus scanners, third party firewalls and so on

edit: Installing "SURT" just gives "The update was not installed" with no reason

lets try it a slightly different route follow the links,
(Reboot after each instruction rerun the tool, are the errors gone?)
go to www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag and see what it has to say, follow any instructions there,
then go to www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate and attempt validation.

This gets stuck "installing update package". It seems to me that all those solutions use the same method of installation. The first site doesn't work properly, neither in firefox nor in IE (it goes to an empty page). It also doesn't claim to check anything relevant

The websites work fine for me, even using Palemoon browser

Please post a copy of the COA,
i was giving you the benifit of doubt.
The product key in use should be from it, blank out the first two sets.
That board is NOT from a bulk standard OEM, Dell etc,
The product key type is 8, meaning from COA.
IF you do not have this sticker that means its been lifted from another W7 computer and the install is non-genuine until i see sight of it NO further help will be provided.

I don't see how I deserve those thinly veiled accusations. Yes I have the sticker on my computer, yes I still have the original mainboard and no, no one is using this license or key except me (or activation would have failed and Windows would nag me). (if you are interested, it is a Chiligreen computer with a Foxconn board). If COA means the sticker, no I won't post parts of that because I am not an idiot.

I accept that I will get no help from torchwood anymore. Your theory that a failure to install without error messages would come from a licensing issue seemed bizarre anyway.

To those finding this through search:

My problem was simply a slightly damaged RAM which was inside the computer during the installation of Windows. Apparently it damaged one of the files needed for installation. I found it because it occasionally crashed various programs.

After removing the damaged piece of RAM I opened the Windows DVD from inside the installed Windows, ran setup and did an "upgrade" (to the same version of course). This solved the problem
