I have a Lenovo Thinkpad t500 and everytime I try to turn it on (or restart), i have to wait Exactly 10 minutes until the thinkpad screen appears and the computer turns on.
i reinstalled windows (ultimate x32), ran chkdsk, swapped ram from my other laptop (checked compatibility) , tried booting on CD with the harddrive removed, restored bios to default, nothing helped.

does anyone know what might be the cause for this problem? I just want to know if it's worth fixing since I recently bought a new laptop.

thanks in advence

Maybe the power supply is bad?
this happened on a desktop we had, everytime you powered on a delayed start, new PS fixed that.

How long after a power-on do you hear the POST beep codes?

I thought of that too, but i had checked with a different battery in the past, same result.
also, if I put the laptop on sleep mode, turning it back on has no delay at all.

I never noticed this, but there's actually no beep (just checked), unless i turn it on from sleep mode.

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Fill in your system spec's page add which security suite you use as well,
Use the link above my signature for assistance with that with the SevenForums free auto utility

Sounds like a bad hard drive to me
Use Clean boot,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ation-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html
Click Start and type in the search box,
msconfig
Click on the suggestion on top or hit the Enter key,
Go to the Startup section and take some screen shots for a complete list,
Go to the Services section and on the bottom left Check the box to Hide All Microsoft services,
Repeat the screen shots,
See the links above my signature on how to take and upload screen shots here,
Cheers.

thanks for the reply,
I don't think the hard drive is the problem, i did reinstall windows three days ago, didn't help, i tried clean boot as you suggested and even set it to run on safe mode, same result.

i keep thinking it's a hardware problem, but then again the wait time is always the same (Exactly 10 minutes) which is very weird .

Because your bios have been set to default and it's always a 10 min exactly it sounds like a program/infection of some kind is doing this.

Have you did any security scans and if so which ones?

I have eset nod32 antivirus, i ran a smart scan, gave me 2 infected files but the problem is still there.
I'm gonna try a full scan tomorrow and see how it goes.
Your antivirus could be scanning with every start up.
I don't think so because if I reboot without an antivirus installed, the problem is still present.

Unless you've disabled the boot scan in Eset it does. Of course uninstalled is another story.

Hi,
Clean install and already a scan picked a virus ?
Have you scanned what ever device you're transferring files from to the new install ?

Otherwise you probably have a rootkit on the device with your files and or the hdd you're installing on.
Review Jacee’s instructions to run Adwcleaner here post #7,
Ignore the title of the thread,
http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/316404-instant-savings-app.html
On the BleepingComputer site use the button that looks like this,
adwcleaner-button.JPG

You can use these free tools to see if they find anything,
Manually Update them before running full scans,
Try not to use your computer while the scans are running, (one at a time of course).
See this tutorial on how to download and run Malwarebytes,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/338716-malwarebytes-anti-malware-free.html
Also use the Custom scan option not the Threat scan and make sure you check the option in the setting to scan for Rootkits.

Post All scan results.

Please Do Not clean/ Delete or Remove Any detections before posting the scan results first before review especially Malwarebytes,
Malwarebytes | Free Anti-Malware Detection & Removal Software
SAS is safe to remove anything it finds ;)
SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!
This one is the longest up to 4 hours, the others are only about 45 minutes,
Microsoft Safety Scanner - Free Virus Scan with the Microsoft Safety Scanner
