Solved Excel and Unique sorting

Excel 2010. Trying to do an "unique" sort (as in data/sort/advanced/unique) for a simple data set of 3 columns and 4 rows. i.e. Sort the data on the first column but leave only the first instance of the name.

An example perhaps: 3 columns 4 rows

Before:
Jones | Bob | Fl
Smith | Joe | MA
Jones | Bob | Tx
Smith | Bill | MN

AFter:
Jones | Bob | FL
Smith | Joe | MA

Appreciate any suggestions.

After a week trying to solve this problem it was pretty simple. I have to import about 1000 rows of data per week, and have been sorting then hiding the duplicates, a real pain. But there in front of me was the command "remove duplicates" It does what I wanted, remove duplicate rows and gives you the option of what column to select for the removal to be performed.
