I checked for Acer 4740 and I found the Acer Aspire 4740. This laptop should be able to use the following memory:

Computer memory upgrades for Acer Aspire 4740 Laptop/Notebook from Crucial.com

Your computer has two slots for memory. It's recommended that you have matched memory for best performance. In other words, both memory sticks should be the same (both sticks 1GB at 8500, or both 2GB at 8500, or both 4GB at 10600, both 2GB at 10600, etc.) 8500 is slower than 10600. The 10600 should operate at 8500 but it doesn't always happen that way.

How do you know your VGA is damaged? If you remove the 2GB 10600 memory does the VGA work again?

Glad to hear the computer is working again. Computers can be very strange and do things for no apparent reason. One other thing to watch out for is heat. That new 2GB 10600 might be getting hotter than the original 1GB 8500 and heat can cause problems. There's a free tool called SPECCY that can monitor your temperatures for CPU, Graphics and hard drive (along with a lot more information about your computer.)

DDR3 PC3-10600 & DDR3 PC3-8500 are not the same. If used together, both will operate at the slower speed & as 64-bit, not 128-bit (i.e., dual-channel mode). If the voltage & timing are not the same, they may not function at all together, but will function individually.
