Explorer.exe crashing frequently on right click

Hello all, I've been driven batty over this windows 7 bug, which of course only happens on my main machine and not any other, and seems to have survived reloads... Either way, frequently (in spurts, doesn't do it for a while, then does it constantly even after reboots, then dies down for a while) windows explorer will crash and restart, often times triggered by right clicking for a context menu on any explorer process item (my computer, desktop, etc). My first thought was a shell extension but after disabling everything non-ms, it is still doing it. Ironically, the only other problem is that after restarting I will always get the 'files waiting to be written to CD' balloon, which of course I can't clear either (tried deleting the files in the CD writing temp directory, nothing on a CD shows to be 'waiting' either). Here's the skinny:

Faulting modules listed at different times through AppLog:
ntdll.dll (most common)
msvcrt.dll (2nd most common)
MFPlay.DLL (once)
OLE32.dll (rarely)

Things Tried:
Disable shell extensions
Virus Scan (although happens on a new fresh load, so virus highly unlikely)
Update drivers
Remove programs (although again, on fresh load, so 3rd party apps unlikely though may exacerbate of course)
SFC scan for corruption (none found)
Full 48 hour memory test

As I'm now pretty much out of ideas and suggestions made to others, I've decided to ask for help on this one; I've attached a minidump (Win7x64) to this so if H2SO4 or others are better at reading it than I am (which wouldn't take much, my WinDbg-Fu is very weak) I'd love to see if they can determine the cause! Finally, at my system specs show I'm running a P5Q-Pro with an E8500 and 4Gb of G-Skill RAM, all at and always have been stock clock rates. I'd be happy to entertain just about anything sane to try as I'm at my wits end with this!

Thanks in advance,
Diamond187

Are you running a version of Firefox, mainly 3.5.x or 3.6.x, and using 'Private Mode', or 'Never Remember History'? :p

3.5.5 and never remember history, yes. Either your psychic or I see this going somewhere... :)
edit: found your post and bug with mozilla; I'm not using private more, but never remember history yes. Either way, sounds like this is a clipboard induced heap corruption issue; any word on when MS is going to fix it on their side? This has been happening since the beta versions and I'd love to get rid of it... Strange thing is that I've never had it happen on any other computers, but thinking of it they are win7/32- guess this is a x64 issue?

Apparently Mozilla have a fix that we will see in 3.5.7, sadly it didn't make 3.5.6, which was released yesterday. :(

The fix should also appear in 3.6b6 or 3.6 RC, whichever is first.

I am running 3.6b6pre at the moment, with 'Never remember history' selected, and it's been great for over a week.

According to Mozilla, Microsoft are aware of the problem and are working on a fix at their end.

My advice for the moment would be to use either a current release with 'Remember history', and use CCleaner to clear your history.

Or use a beta/nightly build that has the fix included.

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.....1/firefox-3.5.7pre.en-US.win32.installer.exe

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.....2/firefox-3.6b6pre.en-US.win32.installer.exe

Hope that helps mate. :)

Shouldn't be long now. :p

That's odd, apparently posted somewhere here about the new FF release, someone mentioned the bug was already fixed :S.

I'm not using FF just for the fact, i went to Opera when i left FF, and now i like Opera better.

Thanks for the tips, I will enable history on firefox (I'm not a privacy nut, just not big on googles search cookies and the like) and wait for 3.5.7 - I was excited to see 3.5.6 out thinking that they would have modded up the importance of the fix but apparently not in this case!

Either way, I'll reenable history and see if that takes care of it, sounds like it's the best shot I've heard so far!

Thanks again,
Diamond187

Well, unfortunately that didn't work for me, I've changed firefox and I've continued to get the errors, even when firefox has not been open the entire login session. Any other ideas on what may be causing the problems?

Thanks again,

Not to try to resurrect an old thread, but the problem has never gone away, and I can't seem to figure out what is causing it for the life of me.

I've attached a dump of one of the errors, seemingly the faulting module was MSVCRT.dll on a memory move, I've seen other sources, but this is by far the most common one.

Has anyone else seen this? I don't have WinRAR installed, FF is 3.5.7 and both private browsing and never remember history aren't on either. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Diamond187
