External Hard drive fat32 to NTFS?

Well tomorrow I am receiving my SSD. And my external hdd is fat 32 and I can't backup some of my stuff because of the file size limit.
I believe I need it to be NTFS but how do I change it from fat32 to NTFS? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well it's nice to see you are in a hurry. Are you saying when you right click on the drive you want to change to NTFS you can't format it to NTSF?

I'm trying to convert it to NTFS. I need it tonight so I can backup all my files and stuff tonight and leave it running all night as it will take a long time so when I get my ssd there's no hassle

Well, if it won't "convert", you may have to put the files elsewhere temporarily and reformat the external.

But you can first try to run checkdisk on the external, with this command from a command prompt. It might fix something that is wrong in the file system:

chkdsk /r

Or just locate the external in Windows Explorer, right click it, choose properties, choose tools, and then choose "check now" under error-checking.

That would be my advice, get the data off the drive b4 you mess with it. Then have at it.

Can`t you put all the data that`s on it now into your my documents folder ? I`m assuming you have data on it, you don`t say. Never seen a dirty drive message.

Make and use the PW Boot CD to delete and format the external.

If you unplug your hard drive when you do your new install, then just plug it back in when your done, all your files will still be on your hard drive. So don`t worry to much. Just have your new ssd drive plugged into port 1 on the mboard.

2-Convert H: /FS:NTFS

Ignatz is spot on : chkdsk /R (which is one step better than /F) will do the trick.
Error Message:
