Hi
for no obvious reason my transcend store jet 25M3 1TB suddenly started on disconnecting and right away reconnecting
but only from my front USB3 port (p.s. i have another external HDD exactly the same just a drop more new that i can't decide if it also has the problem but if it does for sure not at the extend of the first one)
what i already did
i already disabled the USB power settings
downloaded the latest USB3 drivers
installed the latest firmware for the hard drive
it's the same PC as my specs
what could i do:(
thanks

Hello avismile10!

Are you sure other USB devices work correctly on your USB ports?

Try and change the cable for your drive, also try it on another system, see if it does the same. When exactly does it decide to disconnect, is it periodically, or when activating something from the drive or something else? Can you have a HDD software check the drive's health.

well right now it's plugged in in another port and works perfectly fine but i know from experience that it might suddenly start again to disconnect and reconnect but not on the rate like yesterday
i used that port that it kept on happening a lot of times with a bunch of other devices even with the same device but it never happened before
i used a different cable a newer one as i wrote i have two of the same external HDD's the problem was with the old one but i used the cable of the newer one (the older cable had a cable that from the USB port there came out another thin cable with another USB port but the new one was a simple cable)
it happens suddenly either when idle either in the middle of working with it
which software should i use to check the drives health?
thanks

Hey,

Just look for a hard disk utility online, like HD Tune, it has been very much liked, or CrystalDiskInfo.

If other devices work fine on that PC through USB, then it is possible that the USB connector inside the drive's enclosure is having issues.

Back up your data and then scan the health and check SMART stats.

Good luck!

From the results it is visible that the Calibration retry count is high, meaning it could be a sign of a mechanical problem. The G sense error rate is also not harmless, it indicates errors caused from external shock or vibrations.

Your drive practically has a lot of errors. So if you haven't, back up and change the drive.

Good luck!
