Are you talking about the pc board in the enclosure or the drive itself? What make and model of "external drive"?

It is a seagate go flex but i am talking about the pcb board on the actual hard drive that is in the enclosure (the one directly attached to physical hard drive)

I think the drive is toast. Even if you bought another drive and swapped the board to recover the data, I don't think it would work. I believe the factory encodes the platters with drive and speed info unique to each drive. You could try if the data was that important.

How important is the data? There are a few $80-$100 data recovery programs that might copy what can be recovered onto another external HD or USB stick. Time and material are not on your side -- you might have one good shot at recovery.

Thanks for the suggestions guys but i figure the drive is toast to i found out without that unique ic chip i can not recover any data the ic chip come to find out is encoded to the specific drive it is sold with due to firmware so nomater what you do other then send the drive back to the company which they might be able to reencode another board which is not worth the money so without the ic chip the drive will not even spin up but thanks so much for the quick replies sorry i did not get back sooner was away thanks again
