Solved Failed Cumulative Security Update IE9 Win7 Pro SP1 x64; Error 80073712

I've been dealing with this for some time and have been using another browser in the meantime. I also tried to install IE10 with the same problem. Also tried to uninstall IE9 but could not even do it manually. The IE9 security update failures began with KB2817183 and have continued through KB2829530 released on 5/14/2013. Other Windows updates that come up appear to work OK. I have run the sfc /scannow tool and the system update readiness tool and find a list of 4 unavailable repair files in the CheckSUR file. Ultimately I want to update to IE10 but am guessing that I will need to fix these files before that can happen. I have pasted the CheckSur file here for convenience but also have attached a zip file of all the CBS log files. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Windows Update Package Replacement


Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

1. Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)
   
   
   C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests
   
   
   
   
6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)
   
   
   C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages
   
   
   
   
7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again
8. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:
   
   
   C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Thanks very much for the quick and professional fix. It worked perfectly and I was able to finally update IE9 without any errors. Here is the part of the log showing that the manifest files that you sent me have been fixed. Again, thanks very much!
