I have 2 updates that have failed to install on my computer. They are KB954430 and KB973688 and with an error of 643. I’ll explain the computer first then what I have tried.
My computer has Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, 1 TD hard drive, and 8GB of RAMM. I just purchased it as a refurbished computer from Newegg about a week and and this is how it starts out. This should be fun. The only thing that I have done to the computer is add Office, McAfee Internet Security, and Photoshop.
Had automatic updates yesterday and these 2 failed? KB954430 and KB973688 had error code 643.
Looked online with the update and error code and found the solution given below on the Microsoft website.
Ran the stand alone install for both KB954430 and KB973688 and got the following error:
Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specified log file location exists and is writable.
Ran your automatically reset Windows Update components program and came back with the following error:
Troubleshooting was unable to fix all of the issues found. You can find more details below.
Windows update error 0x8007005(2015-05-29-T-12_18_15A) Not Fixed
Problems installing recent values Not Fixed
Service registration is missing or corrupt Fixed

At that point I figured I would stop until I was able to talk to people who have a lot more knowledge on this than me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file
