Failure to enter Standby or Hibernation, stops at black screen

Hi again,

I have another very nasty issue...
My system fails to enter Standby or Hibernation. When I start the process, the monitor fades out to black - as normal - and the system begins to disable devices. I can see i.e. that an attached USB-Stick gets turned off. Unluckily, Windows seems to get stuck in between - my WLAN-Card seems to stay on (indicated by its LED), and the system just gets stuck there. (Interestingly, although the WLAN-Card stays on, the computer seems to disconnect correctly - I can't RDP in in this state.) I have to hold the power switch for 4 seconds to stop that situation.

The behavior started a few days ago, while I was messing around with my drivers because of another (unrelated) issue. Unluckily, System Restore doesn't want to go back, so I'll have to find another solution.
My biggest problem: I just can't find a way to analyze what device is causing the problem - the Event Log shows nothing of interest, and I can't think of other important logs.

Does anyone have an idea what may cause this or how to debug that issue?

Thank you for your help!

Greetings,
Felix Freiberger

Hi,

applying the registry fix, rebooting and initiating standby resulted in the usual freeze. I undid the registry change.

I have already read the general advice you (richc46) linked, but unluckily, I did not find anything useful there.

More ideas, please :).

Greetings,
Felix

Hi,

I tried the SFC + cross fingers method - the results:

  • SFC fixed some errors
  • my fingers hurt
  • Standby still doesn't work

More ideas?

Greetings,
Felix

Problem solved!

Hi there,

after doing a clean install (solved the problem), working with my laptop (problem came back after a few weeks), doing a system restore back (solved again) and re-doing the modifications I did before one-by-one, I finally found the culprit.

If anyone else has the same problem, uninstall Connectify - Turn your Windows 7 laptop into a Wi-Fi Hotspot - at least for me (64-Bit), it did solve the problem.

Again, thank you all for your help!

With kind regards,
Felix Freiberger

I had the same problem with connectify and hibernate/sleep. Hope there's a workaround!

I'm having the exact same issue on a Thinkpad X41T - however, I don't use Connectify. Any new ideas? Any other possible causes?

Running sfc /SCANNOW as I type this, but I doubt that'll fix anything.

I have the same problem

I use connectify with win7 home premium 64bit.
Laptop is Dell inspiron N3010.
And have same problem(standby/hibernation).

So I tested some situations.
I tried to make various combination.
(turning on and off network adaptors/WiFi function Key,
run and stop Connectify Demon)

And finally,
I found the key was that Laptop was connected to the internet once after booting.
Other settings(ex:turnning on/off adpators) didn't affect.

Situation is like this
Cable connected > Boot > Standby(Fail)
Cable disconnected > Boot > Standby(Success) > Cable connect > get IP > disconnect > Standby(Fail)
* WIFI adaptor was on but didn't connected SSID.

* Of course if I uninstall connectify driver, problem solves.
But I wanna use it.
