Failure to restart when i restart my compaq cq50 laptop

Hey everyone...Having some trouble restarting my laptop. I go to restart it and it shuts down to restart and just stays at a black screen so i have to shut down and restart with the power button. Any ideas on how i could go about fixing this? I really don't want to re-install windows. I'm running windows 7 home edition 64bit on a compaq presario cq50 229-wm....Also i don't have a install disc cause i have a recovery drive in it....Thanks!
