False Error: There is no email program associated...

I am getting a popup error when running my DVR program on Windows 7:

"There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."

Problem is my DVR program is not trying to send an email and there is no email installed on this machine because it's only purpose is to run the DVR. The DVR software ran fine on XP and Vista without an email program or an error message.

I went into Default Programs and "Use my current email program" is selected for the default email program. There is no other option and no checkbox to enable/disable it.

How do I disable this error message?

You're probably better off posting this in the "browsers and mail" section of the forum, but in the meantime...

I believe Win7 doesn't actually have an in-built mail client, unlike XP and Vista which used to ship with various permutations of Outlook Express/MSIMN. It looks like your DVR app is attempting to send mail, or doing something which looks like it's trying to send mail, and the error you're seeing is caused by the lack of a registered mail handler.

If you can't work out how to stop the PVR app from behaving that way in the first place, try maybe installing a mail app - anything at all - and the message will go away. It's possible you may need to hobble the mail app so that it in turn doesn't start pestering you with unwanted messages and non-delivery notices. All you want is for it to behave like a "black hole" for mail because you're presumably not interested in the message contents.

This also happens with Avast, I assume for the same reasons, even though I have outlook set as my email client and it still happens.

And there's still a directory named Windows Mail.

Is that really necessary?

There is no email program associated... warning message

I managed to get rid of this warning message thanks to the help of MS Supoort agent. Very Helpful. In MS Config - see if you have desktop SMS ticked at start up. If so untick. Problem solved.
