Server downstairs is an AMD Phenom X3 705E @ 2.8GHz with a mini ninja scythe cooler.
If you don't see any settings in BIOS for fan control, sometimes it's an "easter egg" where you need to know the unpublished setup key. I had a couple of HP machines like this. The only way I found out the key was going on an HP specific forum.

+1 HP's are a total PAIN to control fan sped. I just gave up on it and decided to find alternate solutions to it. You can try to undervolt. It really keeps a pc/lappy cooler :D

If your HP's overheating (wouldnt be surprised, have used several of them), you can get a laptop cooling pad. Its a small base with a few fans which draw power from a usb port on your computer. Most effective.

The HPs I had with the Easter Egg had Pentium IV CPUs. My newer HPs that key doesn't work. But I have AMD CPUs now. Don't know if there's an Easter Egg or not since I haven't had any problems.
