It might be a remnant from previous install ( AV corrupted/Uninstalled but driver remained installed ). Most of the time you will be able to identify third party drivers via "Driver Reference table" at www.carrona.org

Driver Reference Table

Anyway running the official cleaning tool will get rid of all Avast drivers and it's references in Registry. Also refer part two of the "Verifier" guide and make sure it is disabled.

Did you EVER have avast installed?? This type of problem can occur when an uninstaller removes the driver file from disk but the file reference still exists in the registry.

Use the 32- or 64-bit of Regscanner (as appropriate for your OS). Search for aswsp*. Do NOT delete any references. Just give me a snapshot of the window displaying the search results.

cheers gents. I did ask the client about avast and he admitted in the end that he had installed it but then uninstalled when i explained that he should not have 2 anti-viruses installed on his computer.

Ran uninstall utility and all working.

thank you.
