Favorites is locked

I can no longer add to Favorites and the those there before this morning, Recent and Downloads have disappeared from that favorites folder. I have tried: Restore Fav links, trying to drag Downloads to Favorites, creating a Link folder and placing shortcuts there. Nothing has worked. Any help appreciated. thx

I followed all the various steps on these pages but Favorites is still empty. And when I tried to drag downloads to Favorites a Red X appears and I cannot add. NOT: I did have to create a LINKS folder in the C:\Users\(user-name) folder and place the shortcuts there that used to be in the Favorites folder.

Just to verify, did you use option 1, and also do what's in the yellow Tip box at the bottom of option 1?

Yes I did to both.

As a test, does Favorites work in another or new account?

If so, you could create a new account to use instead.

Do you have a system image created before this happened? If so, you can restore this image to undo and fix this.

It wouldn't hurt to try, but a system restore doesn't affect the Users folder.

Because I didn't know about this and just googled to see where it was located, always a bad sign, I do not have a System image. Thanks for your help.

Other than creating and using a new account on the computer instead, you could try doing a repair install of Windows 7 to try and fix this.
