Silverlight Security Update problem.

Thanks to responses on this listserver, we've looked into the Silverlight update, have identified a metadata (logic) error and will be releasing a revision to correct this very soon.

Consider holding off on this update until a revision is published and visible in your WSUS/SCCM consoles - or simply allow auto-approval to permit the revision to replace the original version. We have similarly 'down throttled' unmanaged (consumer) machines until the revision is released (throttled at 0% = no consumer machines will get this installed automatically - but users who open WUApp and choose it, will still be able to run it - even though it will fail).

Per MS in above statement it won't show up on Auto updates.

You may not have Silverlight or they pulled the update since I found the above MS posting.

I had errors on 3 systems (Win7 and XP) earlier today for this.

I just installed updates on someone else's Vista x64 PC and the update worked.

Same here. And I did mine right at 1PM CST which is the release time for updates.

Got error some time before but now on another pc it seems to be ok.

by the way not only this was bad update of feb 14
MSE (and microsoft forefront) definitions update had false positive that reported blacole.BW every time Google.com was opened in IE9. im sure it was fasle positive because I have experienced same bahaviour in few unrelated pcs with same MSE update.
it was fixed in few hours tought.

I had no problems with the updates, I checked just after 8 o'clock last evening my time and installed the first batch of 8 and after the reboot there was another one and that went through with no problems. I have Silverlight 5 on here.

I got the error on Silverlight yesterday evening. It was back this morning and installed OK.

I am running Silverlight 5 and after more research I found that this patch is for Silverlight 4 and so that is why I was never offered the patch.

This update offers a new build (version 4.1.10111.0) that is an upgrade to earlier versions of Silverlight. This update is included in current Silverlight installers.

I have v4.0. I had to look I didn't know ther was more than one.
You would think they would just prompt you to install v5.0 instead.

I'll get the 5.0 if it hasn't updated yet.
I have 5.0 now.

According to the link below, the "Failed" status is incorrect.
The update really installed correctly.
Find "You already have it" (without quotes) in this thread...

Does anyone know if "answers.microsoft.com" a MS site ?

Win 7 machines I updated today do not get an error for this, so it looks like MS fixed the issue.
Machines I updated yesterday that did get a "Failed" error, do not show any updates available today.

Good thing I'm backlogged and pressed for time. I couldn't do the Wednesday (Philippine Time) patches routine which will have to wait until tomorrow. I'll want to probably keep my eye on this topic for more updates

How about KB2600217? Listed as important but not checked. Learned last month this is called "throttling", when MS suspects a problem. It's a big one too.

Based on my experience last month MS forgets about it unless you somehow push them to check it for install.
