hey,
i have just installed reaper - an audio application - on win7 and set my first project
and then i encountered a problem which seems really weird for a person working on pc for over 20 years:
when i save a project, my newly created .RPP file OR folder (generally anything created by this application) cannot be seen in windows
this is strange because i can still access these folders/files from reaper
i can see and open them in the application's file explorer, even the next day, i can see it among my other files, but when i minimize/close application,
files/folders seem not to exist
i tried refreshing screen, restarting pc, saving on other disks, and my folder settings enable me to see hidden folders, so i don't understand what's happening.
could anybody be so kind to explain me WTF?

ps if i try to copy these files directly from applications explorer to desktop, it says they dont exist (so how am i able to open them???)
i also found that if i change one of these files' name/extension in applications explorer, they disappear

How long are the filenames? Windows Explorer has a hard limit of 260 characters for the entire path.

But it does sound weird.

How long is the path that travels from root to directory where the files are kept?

I think what is happening, you are trying to save the files to a location you don't have permission to write to, for example: "C:\Program Files" so what happens, to avoid errors the files are quietly written to a location you do have write access and Windows quietly redirects the application to this location. So The application sees the files but Explorer does not.

You can avoid this by saving your files to a location you have write access.

You can find these files here: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore

Now this is only a guess on what might be happening. You did not provide the location of these files.

Maybe you got some prankware on your system. I would start with a complete scan using MBAM

Rather than running everything that saves files in the Program Files folders,as administrator, I used the Take Ownership shortcut to take ownership of both of the Program Files folders(I am on W8 64 bit.) I can get away with doing that because I am the only user on the system.

Just don't take ownershipt of all of C: or the Windows folder.
