more than likely you wont get FF7 working since it uses i think DX7 or 8, and I'm not sure if it will run properly anyways.

I've played 7 and 9 off my disks, but it's definitely better to rip the ISOs from the disks and play with those. You won't have to worry about the occasional lag from the disk drive not responding fast enough. I just copy the disk to my hard drive then remove it when I'm done with the game/current disk.

Reviving an old topic, but since this already exists, I figured I'd post it here.

Has anyone here actually gotten the PC version of FF7 to actually work in Windows 7 (I'm using build 7100) without having to resort to PSX emulators? I installed FF7, the 1.02 patch, the Chocobo patch, and the minigames patcher (trust me, I need those). When I start FF7, the logos like "Edios Interactive Presents..." don't appear. It's just black. However, when I press OK (Enter on the NumPad), it goes to the New Game/Continue menu. When I press New Game, nothing happens. It's just black. However, I am able to press Ctrl-Q to quit the game. Nothing else works. Anyone know what's going on here or has any tips for me?

Hi Klaw117, welcome to the forums.

It sounds like a directx issue, did you have it working in Vista? Firstly i'd try different GFX settings (in-game) and see what results you get. I don't currently have the game but i'm working on it as it's such an outstanding game.

Hope this might help :)

I didn't even bother with Vista. I just jumped from XP to 7 RC. However, FF7 did work in XP, although I don't think that will help.

And by GFX settings, do you mean I should change something in the FF7 Configuration? Like I said, I can't even play the game right now.

I've tried everything in the FF7 Configuration Graphics Tab. I don't think Windows 7 will support this.

Have you tried installing the game in compatability mode for XP? Just right-click the main setup/install.exe file and under the 'Compatability' tab choose run in compatability then XP service pack 2.

It might just help :)

I didn't install in compatibility mode, but I did try to run it (after I installed it normally) in compatibility mode for XP SP3 (which was what my last OS was and FF7 worked fine on that).

However, FF8 works with no problems whatsoever. Just thought I'd say that.

I'm gonna download FF7 & 8 because they are (for me) the best FF's to date & a must have for any gamer.

You might want to try installing in compatability to see if that makes any difference to the configuration tools (in-game).

Awesome man, just installed it. No compatability needed, just install & go :p

Only thing is the 8bit textures but that's easily fixed

Just about to test FFVII

Cracked it!!! WooHoo!!!

Download the latest patch Here
   Warning
I recommend 1.02 as there have been reports of a Virus in 1.4

   Information
The Chocobo patch and the minigames patcher is in there as well, which will stop your computer from crashing at the Chocobo races and also make the other minigames like the bike race and snowboarding much slower, allowing you to control Cloud more easily. With modern video cards, the minigames are sped up beyond belief. This will stabilize them. Read the readme of that patcher for instructions though, as you have to type in certain things

The issue with FFVII running on newer machines is the codec used to render the game engine. Click Here to visit the download page for TrueMotion 2.0.

Once installed, run Final Fantasy 7 with no issues, all video & all game GFX work like a charm.

Thanks to Klaw117 for the extra info :D

Update:
Due to site changes the link for the patch is no longer working. You can now get them directly by clicking the following link
