Final Fantasy VII ??

I sent you a PM giving you my thanks. However, I would like to leave a message for the rest of the people who see this (this was part of the PM to Orbital Shark).

Just one little tip about the patches. Get them at this website: http://www.ff7-universe.com/

Under the Downloads section, they give you a whole list of patches and stuff. They also say do not use the 1.4 patch, as it is a virus. Just stick with 1.02. The Chocobo patch and the minigames patcher is in there as well, which will stop your computer from crashing at the Chocobo races and also make the other minigames like the bike race and snowboarding much slower, allowing you to control Cloud more easily. With modern video cards, the minigames are sped up beyond belief. This will stabilize them. Read the readme of that patcher for instructions though, as you have to type in certain things.

EDIT: Oh yes, make sure to put this in the Windows 7 Game Compatibility List (http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/5739-windows-7-game-compatibility-list.html)!

help please! After I installed the patch 1.02 and chocobo patch for FF7, I tried opening the game again but it prompts me to insert disc 1, 2, or 3! HELP! What should I do? :(

Basicly what you have to do is use the official 1.02 patch, then the OpenGL patch, then change the permisions on the ff7 folder to allow your user full access to it. DO NOT use compatibility mode with this method as it causes weird bugs. The codecs are f'd up too don't install those either.

got it working 100% on win7 x64, more detailed instructions here on my site...

It's an old thread, yes, but there is a slight change...

It's been bought to my attention that the link for the patch is dead. I've upload a zip file to download which includes the version 1.02 patch + TrueMotion 2.0

I've been trying to install FF7 on my Windows 7 machine today with no luck, even after following the reconmendations:

Installed FF7 from disc
Installed TrueMotion2.0
Replaced the FF7 folder's ff7.exe and the setup.exe with the patched version
Installed the chocobo patch
(couldn't find the minigame one :-S)

But I'm still having the same problem as people seemed to be before - the screen is black, I hit the number pad enter key and get to New Game/Continue and it goes black again after pressing new game. (Unless I'm in 95/98 compatability mode, where it instead just crashes)

Am I doing something wrong here? I assume that the installation of TrueMotion2.0 is just opening the file and letting it install itself, without it needing to be in any particular location when I open it or something, right? :-S

I also tried installing FF7 in windows xp compatability, but that doesn't seem to have sorted the problem either :(

I must be retarded because I can't even get the game to install. I run Setup.exe, click on "INSTALL", the computer thinks for a second and then nothing happens. Am I missing something obvious here??

Jackbarnard and Orbital Shark, thank you. I was able to get most of FF7 up and running thanks to your posts... However it is MOST of the game that works. For some reason, the sub mission keeps freezing about 5 to 10 seconds in and I can not get any further in the game. At first I though that it had something to do with winning the mini game, but the game froze no mater what I did in about the same length of time. I am so heart broken over this. This is by far my favorite FF game, and now not being able to play it depresses me to no end. I know that this is a Windows 7 site, but most of the things carried over from 7 when they had the oops that was Windows 8. Can anyone help me? Please. It is getting to the point that I may download the mobile version for android if I can't get this working. Thanks.
