Lenovo G 570 laptop running Win 7 Home Premium SP1 normally for about a year.will not start after recent update. A BSOD flashes on for fraction of a second, too fast to read error code. Computer will not start normally or in safe mode.
I don't have a restore point or image. Please don't beat me up for that, I too am amazed that I didn't set it up. It is what it is.
I do, however have the original install disk.
I tried selecting upgrade when booted to the install disk, but it won't let me upgrade unless Win 7 has booted normally.
This looks exactly like the update-caused error from last year(?) that messed up so many computers including 3 of mine.

Internet vendor is Clear wireless. Partially satisfied with them. This PC is networked with 2 other PC's, & 2 laptops.
There have been very few (i.e. none that I know of here) reports of this behaviour with this month's updates - until yours.

Have you tried using Startup repair from the Repair My Computer option in the Advanced Boot Menu?

Have you tried using Last Known Good Configuration from the Advanced Boot Menu?

Seems KB3045999 is responsible and have a look at the link below for some ideas to return the system to normal and some there and other sites claim it's due to pirated systems but only seem to effect x64 installations (It's originally in Russian)

first my apologies for letting this post go so long without reply. The troublesome machine was not my only computer so I just used others. But the troublesome computer has accumulated software that I would like to use, which means solving this issue.
I tried to follow the discussion noted that was translated from Russian, but I was unable to comprehend what to do.
I have the installation disk. I wish I could do a non-destructive re-install, but the instructions seem to start from a Windows that is running.
I might be able to follow removing an update from command prompt from the system Recovery Options. I am looking at the Windows directory, it seems to be the right place to start.
This is a Lenovo G570, Intel, Windows 7 Home Premium.

Please boot to Safe Mode, and copy the following files to the desktop:

What about Safe Mode with Command Prompt?
Have you run Startup Repair (3 times in succession)?

I have now run Start Up Repair 3 times in sucession, no change.
Safe mode pops the BSOD for an instant then starts the Start Up Repair module. Safe Mode with Command Prompt does the same.

THANKS! I don't want to admit it, but I had not tried "Last Known ..."
So I am now booted up, updating AV data bases and so forth.
I assume I should take updates off 'automatic.'
Other suggestions?

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

still will not boot

I only thought it was cured. After shutting down for the night, the next morning no boot is possible. Same symptoms, a quick flash of BSOD then the start-up repair starts. It does not show restore points and I never ran the image for recovery.
My searches seem to indicate a way to delete an update from command window, but I don't find the steps anywhere.
I can get to the command prompt window from Recovery Options. I can see my Windows files (it's on E:\ for this machine.
You pointed me to the 'update problems' part of the forum but it seems to be only for problems after Windows starts.
I thought I could work through the tutorials by downloading the update and moving it to a USB drive then transfering it to the problem machine, but I get 'device not ready' when I try to use it on the problem computer.
Thanks for your dirctions thus far, but I sm stymied as to where to go next.

Use Last Known Good again - it should work - then immediately do the work with the update instructions (but do NOT attempt to install updates).

Last known good configuration does not work. It only restarts and cycles back to BSOD.

... and System Restore from the Repair Environment doesn't work, either?

If that's the case, then your best option may be to back up your data to external media and reformat/reinstall - if you can read the Key on your COA sticker, and have reinstall media available
