Firefox 4.0.1 new tab/ home page

When I open a new tab it comes up blank. Windows 7 64.

A search on the net shows people recommending plugins etc to 'fix' this issue.

Why?

Firefox recently updated itself to 4.0.1...prior to that I opened up new tabs that opened up as my home page.

So anyone know what's up with it now?

Far as I know, default FF (no addon) hasn't let you open a custom homepage with a new tab for a long long time, which IMO is really stupid.

If it does, news to me. I hate a blank page with a new tab, and also hate speed dial junk.

I've always just used New Tab Homepage. Lightweight add-on that's worked perfect for me.

I love a blank page, why waste bandwidth going to the same start page over and over again, when most times that I open a new tab that's not the site that I want to go to anyway?

Down to preference. I myself open up my homepage - which is News so that when I open up a new tab, I can take a look at some current News before I browse off to some other page. I could care less about "wasting bandwidth" in that aspect.

One of the simplest options - to customize the new tab to what site you want, should be one of the basic options in a default browser IMO. IE lets you do it, Firefox used to long ago, then they took it away.

Mozilla is coming out with all these versions of Firefox and there's no way to set your homepage without a plugin. That's really unacceptable in a modern browser, although not a deal breaker.

Thanks for the advice...really though...the FF version just before 4.0.1 let me open a new tab to my home page...no add ons...no problem...this is news to me that you can't open a new tab to your home page and need an add on.

I'm with ya I love my speed dial, but I use it a la Chrome.

Yeah...and Mozilla has this policy of not allowing a home page to be accessed direct on opening a new tab...what a joke!

That's as bad as IE having you to have to resort to McGyver like shit to get google not to auto fill search bar
