Solved Firefox is Misbehaving.

Hello fellow members .

Recently (the last week or so) I started experiencing very very very slow load times of even
simple web pages such as Google or the forum's index, using FireFox.

At times it wouldn't load at all until no matter how long I wait until I close the tab and give another go.
Starting today I can't switch the streaming quality on YouTube videos, no difference if I'm choosing
a higher resolution or a lower one.
The video will start streaming at the default 360p and the moment I try to switch to a different option
it will stop the playback, blacken the video window and will default to 240p.


I naturally assumed it had something to with the bandwidth I was receiving but I tested the same
on a different PC around the house and no problems were found (I also asked the usual user
of that particular PC and it was going smoothly throughout the week).
I've used FF for years with very minimal hiccups, nothing like this.

OK so the issue is local on my machine I tested the same web-pages / videos using IE (and surprisingly )
it was working smoothly.


I really love FireFox and have based myself in its functionality I would love to get it back,
what can it be?

• FireFox 26.0 - I've tried 24.0 & 25.0.1 to no avail.
• Tried using FireFox in safe mode not using any addons / extensions, no change.
• It's worth noting that at random intervals FF manages to perform as it should but that doesn't last very long or doesn't reappear for any particular reason.
• Using Internet Explorer 11 to type this post.

That was interesting the default settings were altered or at least it seemed to me like a crazy default setting with 26 ?
Possibly related in a bazar way,
I posted the old timers temp files delete on your profile so use it and reset and post back,
If you have the plugin version of flash remove it and use the regular version,

LOL, it's the only other option I won't touch Chrome .
I used the tool you linked me to and have reset FF (damn I hate doing that)
and no luck unfortunately :\ .

What do you mean flash's regular version, doesn't FF only use flash as a plugin?
BTW I've updated to v12 today.

Open flash 12.0.0.38
See if it says plugin version or not,
I never use the plugin versions,
Firefox and ie show the same versions but there is a beta plugin option just wondering if you use it ?

OK done, but now obviously I can't use flash in FireFox :huh:.

Yes. You need the plugin.

IE uses the ActiveX version of Flash. Chrome comes with its' own version of Flash. Firefox needs the Plugin version of Flash, so you will need to install that version.

Not going to work on just the regular version.

If you have the plugin version of flash remove it and use the regular version,

I thought you would need to redownload the 12.0.0.38 again using firefox,
Or replace it with the one from ie11 which you don't need because you primarily use Firefox,
I'm not a fan of the plugin version,

Firefox has to use the plugin though. It doesn't use the active x from IE.

I figure he could uninstall it and download and use the firefox one instead,
Just for firefox but your saying no ?
I'm sure you more than me on firefox's needs I used firefox for less than a week and it was history
I thought it started out pretty good but steadily drop in speed,

Thanks for looking guys I appreciate it .
I've reinstalled Flash and now I can "view" YouTube videos again.

A recap so far:

• Uninstalled Firefox and trying two older releases, v24&25.0.1, no success.
• Reinstalled and updated Flash, bonkers.
• Reset Firefox to it's default and running without any extensions / plugins, still nothing.
• Have reinstalled v26 and flash.
• Back to using FF and it seems fine at the moment apart from YouTube it's responsive an like before but it has these periods before flipping out again.

The problem persists :\ , any ideas?

Long shot but delete your browser history and al cookies,
Do not sign into gtube this time and test the issue for a while,
You might of picked some not so good cookies,

Try booting to Safe Mode with Networking, and see if the same behavior occurs there. If it does, at least the likelihood of a conflict is very low. If it works fine in safe mode, try a clean start to see if there is a conflict.

I would like to thank you all for looking and your suggestions .
I resorted to a system restore and now things are back on track and running well (yay).
It might have been something I've installed either the latest Java / Flash or a few packages that were installed
with a recently acquired game (Brothers - a tale of two sons).
