Hi!

My system:
Acer VERITON MN: VM4630G-i7477X
32GB Ram
256GB SSD program drive
1-TB HDD data drive
Win7Pro 64-bit
FireFox v 56.0.2 (64-bit)

Problem:

I normally keep five (5) FireFox windows open with a total of 43 tabs between them.

Each window can have from 4 to 20 tabs.

Whenever I shutdown, reboot & restart FireFox the order of the windows shown

in the Taskbar is never the same.

Prior to shutting down I have ordered the FF windows the way I want them, but

upon rebooting and restarting FF the windows are never in the same order.

What to do?

Is there a setting for this that I've missed?

Many Thanks for any tips!

Hi JohnDohe,

Rather than you having to quote your system specs in your posts, it will be much easier for you, and the members trying to help you, if you update your system specifications in your UserCP > Edit System Spec setup. It will help us to help you!

The tutorial below [Published by Brink and written by CyberZeus] makes doing this very easy.

How to See Your System Specs with "System Info"

I hope this helps!

Hi JD,

As to your dilemma, it sounds like you are using the: History >Restore Previous Session command; True?

Go to the Troubleshooting section of Restore previous session - Configure when Firefox shows your most recent tabs and windows

With the first one I always use the red X in the upper right corner to close and it hasn't affected my restore session.

For the second maybe you have clear history when closing checked and have browsing and d/L history checked in the settings for clear history when closing.

But usually I don't have more than one window open or more than ten tabs open when restoring, I'm thinking you're really pushing if not over the limit on how many windows/tab configurations that FF can handle but I haven't found anything to the contrary yet.

If you want to try an add-on there's this: Tab Session Manager if you want to see similar add-ons just copy/paste Session Boss into the search box in the upper right of the Tab Session Manager page and 7 or so will show. I don't use them and picked Tab Session Manager because of a lot of users and recent updates.

True.

I always click the hamburger and then the "Exit Firefox" option in the lower-right of the dropdown."

Clear History when closing: not checked.
browsing and d/L history: not checked

Tried Tab Session Manager. Pretty intuitive to set settings, but, did not solve the problem.

I also tried restarting FF in safe mode (all addons disabled) but that did not make a difference either.

Great suggestions though!

Thanks!

Any other thoughts?

Morning Coffee would fit the bill for one instance of Firefox - just give it a series of websites and you can open them all from the Toolbar with one click or there is a tickbox that allows these to be opened as your home page if you want. They always open in the order you put them in as well so that solves part of your problem

Not sure how you would make that work across multiple instances of Firefox though.

You're welcome and thank you for the kind words.

I checked about maxing out your windows and tabs and found you can have over 1,500 tabs open but nothing about the combination of the two: how many windows and tabs can ff handle FF could crash on a less powerful machine but yours looks to be pretty hefty. The usual symptom is slowing down because of memory usage as you increase the amount of tabs and if you push it the memory usage starts to degrade the cpu and boom you have a browser crash.

You might have a corrupted profile, use this to create a new one and test: Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles
