I can't speak on the SSDs, as the last I knew there were issues getting the performance out of them due to wait-states in the CPU. But like I said, I can't really speak on them, as I've never used them and all I know is things I've read.

I would however offer this: IMHO, I like the ATI graphics, and if I'm going ATI on the GPU, I'm definitely going to go AMD on the CPU and mobo chipsets as well. Of course, mixing and matching components from different manufacturers is nothing incompatible, but when I build a machine I never do. Its a take it or leave it sort of thing I suppose, but to me, it just makes sense.

So, if you were going for an nVidia graphics card, you'd use an nVidia CPU and chipset?

(There are no desktop nVidia CPUs at the moment. nVidia has gotten completely out of the motherboard chipset business for Intel CPUs. I believe that Intel didn't license them for the Core series and later. nVidia also doesn't seem to have many products for AMD any more.)

Avoiding using an AMD/ATI graphics card in an Intel based system is a suggestion I've heard before. I have never heard of any compatibility or performance issues that would cause me to regard that as "sense". (Not even anecdotal reports.)

I have an nVidia CPU in my XFX 750i, I used a sharpie and crossed out where it said Intel.

Why would nVidia ever have products for AMD, it`s their competition.

There is nothing wrong with using a radeon card on an Intel, but the card will overheat and melt.

nVidia gives you a $1000 check when you buy their video card.

I have to admit though that water hoses in my computer might worry me a little.

I know a guy who uses this sort of mineral oil in his liquid cooling setup. I don't know how it measures up to water in terms of efficiency, but apparently it's non-conductive, so if it leaks for whatever reason there is little if any risk.

I once saw a video of these guys who custom built a sort of fish tank/computer case so that they could completely submerge the entire rig in the stuff. They were filling it up while the computer was on.. lol.

Don't get me wrong air cooling is a most viable solution and in the long haul likely less maintenance but with any sort of overclock or living in a hotter area I appreciate the added cooling capacity and quiet operation along with the added space in the case.

I agree with you linnemeyer. I don't plan on overclocking, but to me the Corsair H80 water cooler was still a temptation just for the reasons you pointed out. I finally settled on air cooling for now at least, but I was tempted. LOL
With overclocking, I would see it as a near necessity.

The H80 is a fantastic solution and I would highly recommend it. You may want to consider a premium fan upgrade at some point but try the stock fans and I'm not sure if the H80 is available in a H80i version which likely has the software to control the fans and such for noise?

All jokes, I suppose. However:

nVidia made the best (IMHO) motherboard chipsets for AMD CPUs back in the Athlon 64 days. I handed down an A. 64 X2 4400+ in an Asus A8N-SLI board to a friend a few years ago, and she is still using it. Most motherboards for AMD CPUs now seem to carry AMD chipsets. Lately, some of those have been licensed to run SLI. (Some of us are old enough to remember SLI as Scan Line Interleaving. nVidia bought the term when they were picking over the bones of 3dfx, but changed it to Scalable Link Interface.)

AMD didn't buy ATI until 2006. (It's in Wikipedia, so it must be so.) AMD wasn't big in discrete graphics cards before that.

Excellent find. For what you get I think it's worth the money. The only thing I don't know if I could replace the fans with Noctua fans.
Hopefully 120 are 120 and I could.

I did a little research and found that you can also not only open the system and install other things which I like it doesn't void the warranty. That pump should handle extra load with no problems. The fan controller block is a great idea. Temp run very close to the H100.

But I'm an XP child, and didn't start building until.. post-2006? lol. So imagining a world where AMD and ATI are not skipping merrily together through a sun-swept field of flowers is the seventh circle of hell to me ;p

I honestly did not know nVidia used to make their own chipsets, I thought I sorta walked into that one lol
