Solved Fix - Catalyst Control Center - CCC - will not open/install

Maguscreed, your solution allowed me to solve the puzzle which prevented me from launching Sony Vegas 12, which would crash upon launch. I suspected a problem with the video settings, and once I applied your fix the program launched without problems. Thank you very much!

Never seems to be useful.

Just this very evening I once again used this tried-and-true recipe to get CCC uninstalled and reinstalled so that it would once again successfully launch on my cousin's machine, when upgrading drivers from 13.1 to 13.4 resulted in new driver installed but CCC failing to launch.

On into perpetuity.

I am currently experiencing a problem when it comes to installing the ATI catalyst 13.1 for HD4XXX GPU. I was on 12.x and tried to update my drivers. I used their uninstall utility then restarted my PC. After that, I tried to install the 13.1 installer then i saw the installation complete message but with warnings. Upon checking the logs, there were no warning messages or what so ever. To my surprise, I did not see the ATI catalyst tool when I tried to right click in my desktop. I tried to reboot my PC but yet again there was no ATI Catalyst tool. Then I checked the program files folder and found that there are no files in the "ATI Technoligies" folder. Again, I tried to uninstall, reboot and use driver sweeper (I also tried revo uninstaller) then install the driver. Nothing changed. I got the same install complete but with warnings message. I will try what was posted in page 1 later and see if it will resolve my problem. I am using Windows 7 by the way.

Found the following similar but somewhat more detailed recipe to get CCC fully uninstalled, and then successfully reinstalled, in this thread on the HardwareHeaven.com site.

Uninstall just CCC selectively (using Catalyst Install Manager), and then:

1. Check that registry locations are empty:

a. HKCU/Software/ATI/ACE
b. HKLM/Software/ATI/ACE
​

2. Check that (Program Files (X86) folder )/ATI Technologies/ATI.ACE is empty

3. Check (Windows folder)/Assembly folder to see if there's any files with Public Key Token of "90ba9c70f846762e" (Sort by Public key token to get a easier view). All these tokens should be uninstalled by right clicking and uninstalling.

4. Check that (Document and Settings)/(User)/AppData/Local/ATI/ACE is empty

5. Reinstall just CCC selectively, by running SETUP.EXE from the expanded Catalyst installer folder.


The thread is talking about Mobility drivers and support, but I used it successfully on a Win7 x64 desktop machine running with an HD5450 and current Catalyst 12.8 drivers. My post (thanking the provider of the "recipe") is at the bottom of that thread.

Astonishingly, it worked perfectly!! Actually, there was one minor unexpected issue but it didn't seem to make a difference. I could not delete absolutely everything under \Program Files (X86)\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE, because one file CLIStart.exe in the \Core-Static sub-folder was apparently open and active. I simply skipped it, kept my fingers crossed that it wasn't critical, and continued on with the rest of the recipe. Apparently it was not critical.

After CCC's refusing to launch no matter what I did (from my usual methods to get it working, short of a complete driver uninstall with Driver Fusion and then a complete driver reinstall), the above recipe worked flawlessly to get just CCC launching properly again.

I replaced an old HD5870 1GB with a HD7970 Vipor-X and then hell was loose. Performance in games like Crysis 3 is lower or the same than with the old Card.

So far i cannot get this procedure to work 100%. The CCC do stays in the windowsbar and i can change 3D setting from there but everytime i try to open the CCC it just closes and stay on the window bar.

Is is adversible to reinstall games after a upgrade ?

Dsperber, I registered specifically at the forum to thank you for posting this detailed step-by-step solution. I've been frustrated for a while with the fact that I could never access the supposed control center to my new graphics card. I tried some other methods that were posted, but to no avail. Frankly, I doubted your method would do anything either, but I figured what the heck. When I'd done all your steps and right-clicked the desktop background and clicked on "AMD Catalyst Control Center" I was shocked when it actually opened up, and I was able to see this mythical control center for the first time ever since buying my new card.

Well, I guess I'm off to see if I can finally get some anti-aliasing going to smooth out those jagged edges. Cheers.

For the first step, locating certain registry entries, can you tell me how? I'm decent with computers but the registry is not something I like to mess with.

ccc doesn't load on my computer. I've been doing a lot of searches and the fix that seems to be most effective for people is the one which involves removing some GAC tokens.

Specifically the one with this number 90ba9c70f846762e

My problem is that I don't have this number in my windows/assembly folder... hence I don't know what to do...

Please help, I am not the only one who does not find 90ba9c70f846762e

I have exactly the same problem.

It didn't work because there is no "90ba9c70f846762e" tokens under windows>assembly on my pc.
However there are multiple tokens that says AMD, just non of them have the following combination of "90ba9c70f846762e"
