fix MBR

Hello. I wanna install Linux ( OpenSuse 11.2 ) as the second OS.
But i never used before Windows 7 + another OS, only XP + Linux ....
If i wanna get ride of Linux, what do i have to do in Windows 7, to fix the Master Boot Record ?
In XP it was very simple , but i think under Win 7 it's different.
Same story : boot the DVD, and same steps like in XP ?
If someone did that already, please advice me.

I believe you would have to remove the Linux boot-loader and then do startup repairs to Windows 7 to complete the process; have a look at the tutorial at the link below to get some info as a start.

If you installed grub to the MBR which is where it defaults to in suse.
Just install your W7 DVD and click on repair your computer. Click on the operating system you want to repair, click next. Got to Command Prompt. Type Bootrec.exe /fix mbr.
Then you can reboot and deal with your suse partition in disc management.
PS you won't need to do any thing with grub Bootrec.exe will rewrite your mbr. You can also do the command Bootrec.exe /fix boot but I've never needed to. I duel boot with SuSE 11.3 Let us know if this works.

By far the best method to use for multi-booting with Linux is to put the OS's on separate HD's so that GRUB doesn't have a chance to corrupt Win7 and they can come and go as you please.

Unplug all other HD's during OS install. Then set preferred OS HD as first HD to boot in BIOS setup. To boot other OS HD(s) use the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key given on first boot screen of in your manual on mobo Support Downloads webpage.

I always put Linux on another HD but I like to let grub handle the boot order. I can have it default to Windows or Linux. I have done it with the bios but some MBs do not support this. As a cavet to this let me say I always backup my Windows system to another HD.
I have broken Windows many times playing with Linux. Now I know how to keep it safe.
