Fixed distorted sound on my Asus laptop

Hey guys, I just upgraded my Asus N70sv laptop to windows seven home premium, from the equivalent version in vista. The sound was horribly distorted. For some reason I decided to roll back the driver to see what would happen, and guess what? It works great again.. this is probably not a permanent fix but it will do until the source of the problem gets resolved. I hope this helps

I'm having the same problem, except i have a fresh Win7 Pro install... I've tried the default drivers (the ones installed by win7) and a couple other "Realtek High Definition Audio" but i always get the horrible crackling with my sound. Unfortunately, i can't downgrade my drivers... most likely because they're the only ones i ever had... so i was wondering, is there any chance you could go to your sound card properties and look at the version/date/name of the drivers? Since we have the same laptop, i'm guessing that installing the same drivers as you would most likely do it for me...

Cracking sound

Hi,

I've also got problem with cracking sound after upgrading to Windows 7. The sound got much better after installing a previous audio driver that was available for download at ASUS. The sound is not perfect, but it's workable. Ocasionally it sounds like small scraches on an LP. Other problems are that the inbuilt microfon hardly can detect any sound, neighter do the surround system work.

ASUS has lately replaced the previous audio driver with the audio driver shipped with the Support CD, which cause the cracking sound.

I've been in touch with ASUS support and accordning to them the only solution is to reinstall Vista and then upgrade to Windows7 again.

Has anyone managed to solve the cracking sound issue without doing a full reinstallation?

Well its been a little over a year now that I ve been using this driver, and thought I would try updating the sound driver to see if I could get the Realtek one to work, so i could use the SRS premium sound functions, but guess what I still cant find a good fix for this as it is still terribly distorted, si i restore my pc to the previous driver, and will continue to use this driver as it is not perfect butworks 100 better than the realtek driver that we should be able to use......side note I turned up the volume in the bios as default is like 50 %............Im just an average user so if anybody can find a better fix than this please post!!!!!!!!!

The problem must be caused by Windows 7 mixer. Try using ReClock (http://sandbox.slysoft.com/beta/SetupReClock1877.exe). Hint: bypass the mixer by choosing Wasapi Exclusive Mode in the settings

On the off chance that anyone will see this, I tried using ReClock in the mpc-hc player, and the garbled audio was worse. It occurred for every song attempted. With VLC, it occurs about 1 out of 3 times.

Additional data, using Process Explorer from the SysInternals Suite, every time the problem occurs, core 0 on my cpu experiences a steady number of kernel interrupts, each consuming 25-35% of the core, and the stream of interrupts continues until I restart the song. On the first or second restart, the interrupts stop, and the music is clear. So that leaves two question I think. First, why can I hear these interrupts anyway, and second, what causes these interrupts, which seem to be directly related to starting a new song, this never happens mid-song.

Ideas anyone????
