Flag added to stop a .dll from loading?

Hi - is it possible to add a flag (or whatever it might be called) to an .exe or the command-line to stop to stop a specific .dll from loading when an app is launched?

I am not even sure I am asking the question in the right manner, but I am trying my best!

be more specific...what .exe, what .dll, and if the program calls for the .dll, it prob won't run without it....

What program are you trying to prevent from loading in a normal manner?

What is your objective?

The program is Cubase.

The objective is to not have a specific .dll file load with the app.

The app will run w/o the .dll.

Add .bak to the dll file and see if that works. I.E. something.dll.bak.
Curious, what does the dll do that you don't want?

It might be causing the program to hang - not sure, but I wanted to rule that out as a possibility.

How do you add a .bak to a .dll?

The normal procedure to rename a file is to highlight the file and right click on the file name and select rename. Keep the full file name and just put your cursor on the last character and add .bak to the file name and select ok.

This way if it all goes to hell in a handbasket, you can go to the .dll file and remove the .bak from the end of the file and save and you should be back where you started.

Now, the file could be read only which you will have to change in properties.

Also, if you don't have the folder properties set to show hidden and system files, you will have to go to control panel, folder options and select view files and remove the check marks from hide hidden and system files like this

Yes, just type .bak after the .dll part in the file name after you click it twice slowly, the file name will be hightlighted.
