Solved Flash Player interference

Hi Folks. I recently bought the Oxford English Dictionary on CD rom and it doesn't work completely because according to their technical department one of my security products is interfering with Flash Player. Has anyone come across this issue? Also, is it a bad idea to whitelist Flash Player in my security systems: intuition says it is but... And will it help?
The only item in Local Storage is 'Local' but it is set to allow sites to store on my computer: is this a good idea? intuition says not.
ps. my Flash is fully up to date.

Flash does update more frequently than Oracle though quarterly is a definite rabbit hole

Somewhere down the line I must be displaying far greater expertise and understanding than are actual.
I'm sure that in your response are the answers to my questions but I'm afraid comprehension has eluded me.

No, if what you have on your profile is up to date:

Antivirus: MSE. MB anti exploit. MBAM Prem. HitmanPro.alert2

that should pose no issue with flash player.

Try uninstalling all flash player and then restarting and reinstalling it.

What browser are you using? Does it not work on any site?

(By the way, hitman pro alert does not work with MB anti exploit. Choose one or the other. -though that would not cause the flash player issue)

Hello Andrew; thank-you for that valuable head's-up: I wondered why there was a one second delay before my browser opened. I've scrapped MB anti-exploit and I'm back to normal; again, thank-you.

BTW: Flash works perfectly on everything except the dictionary, which - I've discovered - was designed for Windows up to Vista only; I sent it back and got a refund.

Did you ever try compatibility mode? Although it is too late now. The product might have only worked on older versions of flash (which in that case, compatibility mode would have done nothing). Just like java, flash is a pain and not something developers should depend on with certain versions.

I've completely removed Java from my system: so far there haven't been any issues due to its absence. Flash is less spooky to me so I keep it going, although I suspect I would definitely have issues if I removed it. There was another major problem with the dictionary in that it wouldn't interact with Word in order to "Look up" so I was completely dissatisfied anyway. Thanks again Andrew.

You need not have given up on the Oxford dictionary. I had the same problem on my Macbook, but no such problem on my Windows (running Home 7). On the Mac, I didn't even know what the problem was until recently. I then uninstalled Flash and the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary program worked again. Before that Oxford just used to quit. So what I did was load an older version of Flash (ie: 11.3) from 2012 or so, and both Flash and Oxford are working perfectly. The CD versions of the Oxford are even better than the book versions, since there's much more in terms of examples, co-locations, etc, and of course UK and US pronunciations you may listen to. So it's a pity you had to abandon it for this reason when a simple fix was possible.

Thank-you for your advice. I got it working; I just couldn't get it to interface fully with Microsoft Word. I just live with what I have achieved; life is too short to be constantly struggling. It's Christmas Day here; I know it won't mean anything to you but Merry Christmas anyway.
