Adobe Uninstall

You may need to get the uninstall file frome Adobe. Use it and then reinstall.

I suggest that you do the following -

NB.****Make sure you have all Windows closed during the uninstall process.****

*Uninstall the old version using this tool.
Uninstall Flash Player | Windows

*New Version to be downloaded.
Adobe - Install a different version of Adobe Flash Player

*Verify that it is indeed installed.
Find Flash Player version

*Settings Manager. To allow you to change Flash Player Settings.
Adobe - Flash Player : Settings Manager - Website Storage Settings panel

Unfortuately neither the uninstall nor the install programs work. The only way that I have been able to remove the files is to delete them. I restored them from a backup, but they do not work.

It would be good to know what web browser you are using.
IE8 uses a different uninstaller than IE9. FF and Opera may be different.


Uninstall will only work on IE if IE brower is closed.
Download uninstaller close IE then run uninstaller.
Go here and test Flash player after uninstall and it will automatically prompt you to install the newest version for IE8, FF and Opera.

If you are using Google Chrome then go to Google Chrome and update not Adobe.

Do not do a Windows reinstall. Try System Restore first. If you know when it quit working just roll it back before then. If your not sure go back a few days and pick a point to try until you find a good point.
Better than a Win reinstall.
If we get to that point I'll get you someone to help with a Win7 repair first .

Got to the page I posted above then turn off the AV and try it. If nothing happens refresh the page and try.

Don't go all over the net with AV off. Just that Adobe page.
Don't want you to catch a cold.

Your permissions may not be high enough try it this way.

Update Flash Player on Windows Vista and Windows 7 On some Windows Vista and Windows 7 systems, Flash Player is installed, but does not display Flash content.

If the installed Flash Player is between version 9.0.28.0 to 10.0.45.0, use a special installation utility that uninstalls Flash Player and then installs the latest Flash Player. This utility is for Flash Player for Internet Explorer. Follow these steps:

1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to one of the following folders (only one exists depending on your operating system):
   • C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\
   • C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\
2. Locate the installation utility. It is a file with a name like FlashUtil10d.exe. The number and the letter, such as 10d in this example, depend on the installed Flash Player version.
3. Close all applications except for Windows Explorer.
4. Right-click the installation utility (FlashUtil10d.exe in this example).
5. Select Run as administrator to execute the installer with administrator permissions.
   
   
   
6. Select Yes in the User Account Control display, if it pops up.
7. Select Install Now to install the update to Adobe Flash Player.

I forget now if adobe picks the right version for you....I don't think so.

So if you have 32bit use that version, if 64bit use that.

That's another reason to have your specs filled out.....But don't tell anyone I said so....

Last time I got my update for IE8 at the Flash test page I posted above gives you a direct download to install.
You have to click the "Do you really want to?" that Windows/IE 8 pops up.

So it does sometimes anyway. Always so far for me.

That's what I thought.

After dwhite was still having trouble installing especially after JMH, and your post, permissions seemed to be the next item to check.

Latest attempt. Noticed that installer was not updating the registry key with version number. Modified restry key key (after exporting it to desktop) programs still do not recognize player. Uninstalled flash player and installed older version, modified registry, rebooted. Programs still do not recognize

Finally did what was recommended earlier and ran system restore. Problem solved.
