Floppy Diskette Seek Failure

I recently bought a new power pack for my Dell Dimension 5100 and after installing I got a message saying floppy diskette seek failure. I googled it and as suggested disabled it in the bios and SORTED.
However yesterday i was installing a new wireless dongle and it crashed and I had to shut down. I have since got a variety of messages relating to files includinf "NTFS" and "PCI" so I want to do a repair of the Windows XP Home OS. However I cant install the CD because the drive isnt working. I had a look inside (because I am pretty sure the drive worked fine before the new PSU) and I am sure that all the wires are in right. When the computer is on the CD drive opens up and closes but is not actually recognised. Also, I have tried several other working CD drives but to no avail (presumably because they have to be installed right?).

What do you suggest? I would appreciate any help!

NOTE: I have tried repairing using a USB but it didnt work, maybe you could suggest some software....

The only thing you did to the stock Dimension 5100 is change the PSU?
You obviously have power to the CD drive, because its opening and closing, so I don't see the PSU being the issue. All you did to the CD drive was unplug the power cable from it, and plug in the appropriate cable from the new PSU to the same spot, right?

These messages regarding "NTFS" and "PCI", could you elaborate on the content of the messages?

What do you mean by that exactly?

If that's all you did, I don't see what happened, unless when you changed options in the BIOS you did something to affect the CD drive, as well. To my knowledge of motherboards that support IDE, the CD drive and floppy can be on the same IDE cable, and so maybe you took both out with that BIOS modification instead of just the floppy.

Does it have a floppy disk drive? Is the BIOS maintaining the date and time and retaining its settings when the PC is off? I'd double check all your data and power cables to make sure you haven't knocked something loose when you replaced the power supply. At one time Dell didn't use standard off the shelf power supplies. You had to order a replacement from them or rewire a standard power supply. I don't think they do that anymore but it wouldn't hurt to compare the wiring of the 20/24 pin motherboard power plug on the two supplies to make sure all the colored wires match up.
