Hi

I have a Dell Precision 390 desktop pc (yes I know it's old!). I bought an SSD to boost performance, speed and capacity.

The install and data transfer was a breeze - done this before without issues on another pc. All looked good, new drive recognized, all data seemed to be present, so the next step was to change the boot priority in BIOS. Due to time constraints I didn't start this for a few days and carried on using the old hard drive setup. So the pc restarted a number of times with both drives in place, but with the new SSD not in use.

So, had time on Tuesday, restarted the pc, pressing F12 for Boot options as indicated on the boot screen. Nothing happened, it just booted into Windows. Restarted and tried F2 for setup, again it booted into Windows.

Did a bit of googling - and a common bit of advice was to remove the motherboard battery, press the power button for a while, leave for an hour and try again.

Now after the Bios screen progress bar gets to about three quarters of the way along, I'm getting the beep, followed by the message "Floppy Diskette Seek Failure. Press F1 to continue or F2 to enter setup."

F1 or F2 do nothing, neither does F12 or Del. Nothing works.

I've tried removing the new SSD completely, so the setup is effectively back as it was, but the message still appears.

Any clues from you learned people?

(It is a Windows 7 pc, but as this is a pre-Windows boot issue I doubt that is relevant for now.)

Having reset the bios it reverts back to having a floppy disk which its trying to find many settings may be wrong as it may be set to raid. Its been a problem for a while with windows booting so quick you cant catch the key press. Normally you have to start hitting f2 before you power on and keep hitting it

Thanks to all. Managed to get this fixed by a friendly local pc repair guy. He told me it's a common issue that USB keyboards sometimes have when trying to get into boot settings. He plugged in his trusty ps2 keyboard and went straight into BIOS! I'd tried two different USB keyboards without success.

Now have everything up and running.
