Formatting Windows 7 Questions

The only one of the startup programs you need is Avast, unless you rightclick desktop to choose Gadgets, or want to keep a Stickynotes open on your desktop from the Start menu for jotting notes or lists.

If you wipe your HD you will lose the Recovery Partition, which you may not need since you have the valuable Dell Installation DVD - unless you discover some of the pre-installed programs or Dell utilities are missing and you want them. You can look for them on the two other disks Dell sent, but if they're not there then you might decide you want to run factory recovery. I would wait to be sure about this before wiping the HD to reinstall. If performance is snappy with no lags or other problems then I'd keep what you have.

greg right now the speed is okay better than before. But why can't i just format my hard drive? I learned my mistake of not listening to you already but now you don't want me to format the hard drive? I don't mind spending time doing it. It just looks veyr complicated.

Also, i really want to delete the stored backup files i have from windows 7 that is 62gb. Can you tell me how to delete these properly. I read you are not suppose to just delete that folder. Can you tell me how to delete these files the right way?

greg. I did that. When it pops up what i want to delete, it only shows about 3mb of stuff and 3 things checked.

When i check my computer, it still shows 355mb free out of 461mb...

Enable hardware auto-updating then check optional Windows Updates for newer drivers.
Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware

Check your Device Manager to see if your ethernet (if wired) or wireless Network Adapter is the latest one available from updates or the Dell Support Downloads webpage for your model computer.

Are there any drivers missing or in error in your Device Manager? Driver Install - Device Manager - Windows 7 Forums

Try another browser: Best are 1) IE8, 2) Firefox, 3) Chrome.

greg one last question.

Now i got like 7 things on my startup. Such as itunes, quicktime and a few others. How can i delete them? The only thing i can do is disable it by unchecking it? Why can't i delete it from the startup menu and can i do this ? If so, how?

There is no reason in the world to "delete" them. Uncheck the ones you don't need started with Windows. I don't see why you would need I-tunes or Quicktime to start with Windows. Make sure anti-virus remains checked.

There is no way to "delete" them. But you can stop them from running. Even if you could delete them, why would you? Some day, for some reason, you might want them to run at startup. That's why they are controllable.

This is what and how you need to reinstall Windows, just like we suggested before, take your time and do the steps in this tutorial one at a time and it won't seem so confusing.

SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

After the clean all finishes (step one) type exit 2 times followed by the enter key and the command window will close and you will be back at the installer to follow the steps to a clean install, now it will be good to let the installer do everything.

How to Do a Clean Installation with Windows 7

Don't be concerned with installing any drivers, the Windows 7 installer will do all that.

Avast is good and so is MSE for an A/V, both are free.
