HUH???

I posted a mention of PotPlayer just a few notches up, in post #493. Didn't it get seen??? I was talking about this very program.

I provided the download link from DVBSupport, which provides the English language installer version directly.

I also provided the download link from VideoHelp, which provides a direct link from the Daum developer web site, but in my experience the downloaded program is in Korean.

So unless there's a way to get an English version from the developer's site which I can't fathom, I'd suggest just going to DVBSupport for an easy link for 32-bit and 64-bit versions. The PotPlayer "beta" version link at the top of the page is only 32-bit I believe, so best stay with links to the latest stable version down a bit on the page which are for both 32-bit and 64-bit.

NOTE: right-click on the main area of the program for context menu, and select Preferences to get the customization dialog. Then select the General item on the left and check the "store settings to INI file" option, so that you can save your customizations. Each time you re-install the program it saves your existing PotPlayerMini64.ini to PotPlayerMini64.bak and creates a brand new default one. You can then delete the new default INI and rename the BAK version to INI, to save you the trouble of re-doing everything all over again.

Here is my own customized INI file, which you might want to start from. You can just overlay your installed version with mine (or save yours for re-name, if you don't like mine). I've turned off sub-titles playing DVDs, eliminated the Window "frame" around the playing video, made the video play in its true original size by default, but otherwise it's nothing unusual. Even with nothing showing except for the playing video, if you move the cursor over the bottom of the image or top of the image, the expected "player controls" will re-appear until you move the mouse away.

I've seen it, but unless it's the program's source download page instead of some 3rd party mirror download, it won't get added to the list.

Yes they are the same. It is also known as the Daum Potplayer after the Company that created it. I tested the link that I had sent and it did take me to the applet's download page.

This media player is too good and can perhaps be included as Daum or Global Potplayer or just Potplayer

I downloaded Pot using your link.

It won't play Bluray -says "no audio and/or "video" found".

These play on my stand-alone Bluray player, so that's not the case.

BluRay discs are copyright protected, with AACS and BD+. I know of no free players that can do the necessary decryption. That's why you pay money for non-free players like CyberLink PowerDVD, etc., because they pay the needed licensing fees to the BluRay consortium and "industry".

Yes, but only non-protected DVD's. If the DVD is a retail commercial disc with copy-protection, then PotPlayer will again NOT be able to play it (nor will any other free player that I know of).

If you right click, it says open Bluray, so I assume it is capable of playing them.

Technically, it IS capable of playing BluRay's as well as DVD's. But the copy-protection must be overcome, and there are non-free 3rd-party software products to do just that.

But again, if you're going to pay for 3rd-party product to overcome copy-protection you might as well buy a non-free commercial player in the first place. And those commercial software players actually have a better user interface for playing BluRay's and DVD's than PotPlayer, so you should put your money in the right place if you want to play these discs on your computer rather than on an actual physical machine with superb output to your HDTV and wonderful sound through your AVR and sound system.


Nevertheless, I can attest to the fact that PotPlayer DOES play BluRay's and DVD's, once the copy-protection is defeated.

What PotPlayer is truly wonderful for, however, is all other forms of computer audio/video media files, without requiring any outside codec packs to be installed. I've got its "file associations" checked so that all of the video file types that either (a) used to be associated with Windows Media Player, or (b) didn't have a default player associated, are now associated with PotPlayer as their default player.

I still prefer Winamp for audio, but now use PotPlayer for video.

Just tried three store-bought dvds and all play with Pot Player as well as VLC. (all have copy protection.)

As far as playing the Blurays on my computer, I was just curious.

I do play them on my PS3 and with my surround sound receiver it is great, so really no need to buy any third party apps or players for my computer.

Privacy Badger is an EFF AddOn for Firefox and Chrome.

The reason I think people should be aware of it is it takes AdBlockPlus to the next level. I was running ABP and I seemed to always have 52 tracking cookies when I did my SAS scans. With Privacy Badger install default configuration my SAS scans come up clean!! No time spent diddling settings. Install and surf.

Process Closer

I just ran into this yesterday and tried it out. Process Closer is yet another process kill close utility for Windows. What sets it apart is the usage. It runs in the Tray. When you want to kill a program you left click the tray icon. This opens a tooltip type window that says Drag and Kill. Put your mouse on that, then right mouse drag to the window of the process you want to kill. A confirmation dialog pops up.

No need to type in process name or window title. Very intuitive freeware.

Note that the link is to the Snapfiles listing since going to the developer's site I could find no link for Process Closer. Just a corporate outsourcing page.
