hi all
in my newsletter from addictivetips they reviewed this program SlimCleaner its like ccleaner but the user interface is rather swish and colourful im testing it out right now (so far so good)

Many users prefer using CCleaner for getting rid of unnecessary files from temporary file directories. However, many apps like CCleaner are not very effective and leave behind clutter from many directories (e.g. the log files and Temp from the Windows directory, Prefect files and even the Temp in user profiles). A better alternative to CCleaner can be the previously reviewed Xleaner. However, if you would like to have a software that contains the attributes of the robust Xleaner and provides the ability to identify and removed toolbars, applications and the like that hijack your system components, then you should try SlimCleaner. It cleans and optimizes Windows systems using a crowd-sourced approach, as well as provides configuration options for programs, startups and service settings. Moreover, it provides information and removal options for applications and services that take over system tasks and unnecessarily consume system memory and strain the CPU.


The Cleaner tab provides detailed options regarding the selection of Windows directories, applications and browsers that you wish to clean clutter from. Select the desired options and click on Run Cleaner to start the cleaning process.

Please note that this software is still in its beta stage and therefore, you may face some bugs or functionality problems. Although we did not experience any of them during testing.

Indeed, "progman" wont work as expected on my machine. (Windows 7 x64 Ultimate SP1 ), and I have to use an older version of Autohotkey for my scripts. Bit of a pain.............

Edit: I uploaded v. 1.4. Instead of looking for Progman class name, it looks for Program Manager window title. Please download and see if it works. It works on my system but I don't have the "WorkerW" class name to test it.

Seems like they also removed Program Manager as the window title. Man, it's like they're determined to break code.

I've uploaded 1.5. It accepts either Progman class name or WorkerW class name as indicator that the desktop is the active window. If this rev doesn't work I give up.

Downloaded and test SlimCleaner
I am a bit leery about this app, when run, it mentions Initiating Cloud Transmission and other cloud stuff, as if it is transmitting information back and forth over the web. I will try to take a look at it later. But, be aware, that it could be transmitting information about your PC to somewhere.

I am not saying that this app is doing that, just that I saw something going on that make me pose the question and want to post the warning of what I am seeing.

Thanks a lot for trying, but there are other problems involved here because I use an extremely customised version of explorer and Autohotkey can't find the open explorer windows in the normal way. There are problems with .net classes involved, among other things. I have had some headaches with this!

I have found the Win 7 Start Menu a little lacking in functionality and ease of use, so I tried this program about 6 months ago and can report that it is very stable and trouble free.

The basic file is free to use.

There is a premier version - quite honestly there's much much difference, but I bought it to say thanks to the author.

In use - you can customise the layout, skin, colour and activate or change hot-keys for programs and even sut down routines,
eg: Win key + F7 puts my PC to sleep
Win key + 3 opens My Pictures,
which is a lot less faffle I can tell you.

The menu layout is akin to earlier versions of Windows, better grouping too and it allows you to drag and change the order, create new menu folders and delete the crappy Readme entries, which are annoying after you've read them last year already.

I am using the dark skin, ie not aero for the menu as transparency can be a right butt pain in a menu; but Aero is available for fanbois.

The latest version also includes another exe with source .. 7FolderLite. It takes no account of desktop or explorer class name. IOW, it always tries to send Control-Shift-n when the hotkey is pressed. Use it in cases where the Windows7 Desktop class name is not predictable.

A word of warning re: Comodo Firewall. It is an internet connection buster when it uninstalls and it also BSOD'd on me twice in the process of uninstalling & it did not do it cleanly and I had to spend at least an hour cleaning up the registry...they don't appear to have a removal tool. So I had to rely on System Restore in the end.
I'm staying with Windows Firewall for now and keeping my fingers crossed that it and Avast will protect me.

There is a Clean-up tool for Comodo Firewall or the Comodo Internet Security Suite. The details are found here:
