Although you could argue it is limited, who uses winamp to rip music?! Just use another free ripper to do the job. So you could argue on a technicality that its free as well!

Update from my system!

CrystalDiskInfo open source hard disk monitoring -HDD/SSD utility software which supports S.M.A.R.T. Supports 7, available as a portable (no install or as an installer). Excellent, straightforward SMART data on your Hard Disk or SSD's health.

ACiD View 6 is is a multimedia viewer for Windows. Supports a variety of textmode and bitmap graphic formats such as ANSI/ASCII, XBIN, GIF, JPEG and PNG. Additional features include a modem-speed simulator, VGA previewing and more!
Especially good to view your .nfo files and see the ASCI art as it was intended. Will even scroll your text.

Metapad works great for me in 64-bit, very nice text editor.
MetaPad was my text editor of choice for many years - I even embedded it into all of my XP slipstream installs as Notepad.exe. I switched to EditPad Pro to make use of MDI (tabs). I still use MetaPad on occassion because the secondary font function is rather useful for my aging eyes.

KLS Mail Backup

I've been using KLS Mail Backup on my wife's system for a month or so.

When I converted her system from XP to Win 7, I backed up her Windows Live Mail on the XP system, loaded in Windows 7, ran Windows Live Mail enough to get it to set its directories, then did a "restore" of the backed up XP mail. Worked like a champ - brought everything in except the passwords - all the contacts, rules, mail, and accounts.

Works great on 32 bit systems, don't know about 64 bit ones.

From the site blurb:

•Backup:
Windows Mail profile and Windows Contacts
Windows Live Mail profile, Windows Live Contacts and Windows Live Messenger Files
Outlook Express profiles and Windows Address Book
Internet Explorer Favorites and Internet Accounts
Mozilla, Seamonkey, Thunderbird and Firefox profiles
Postbox profiles
Opera profiles
The Bat! profiles
IncrediMail profiles

•Backup to: local and network drives
•Standard ZIP compression
•Full and incremental backup mode
•Flexible restore options

KLS Mail Backup - Freeware Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird, Firefox backup

GFI Backup 2009

GFI is promoting some free software as PR. One piece I found and have used is GFI Backup 2009. Saves some time when re-loading and re-configuring a system.

From the site blurb:

Backup Program Settings for various Applications

Using a public scripting engine, GFI Backup 2009 allows you to back up programs settings for various applications such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Microsoft Outlook email, Outlook Express email, Thunderbird, Eudora, Windows settings and Address Book.

PCalc

I've used freeware from AnalogX for years. I just noticed after some inactivity, the site and programs have been updated. My favorite is a small programmer's calculator called PCalc

I've been using it since Win9x but the new version has been reworked to avoid some Vista/W7 compatibility issues. Also some features, such as remembering screen position, have been added.

You don't need to be a programmer to use it. Instead of the Gui that looks like a hand-held calculator with number and operation buttons, you just enter a formula into the input line. It uses C syntax but it's not rocket science.

For example to add the product of 255 and 50 with the product of 12 and 75 you would enter: (255 * 50) + (12 * 75) and hit the Calculate button. The result in various formats can be copied to the clipboard using one of the 'c' buttons on the right, and pasted into the next calculation.

There are other freebies on the site including some networking tools, system, and music utilities.

I've tried the new PCalc on W7 build 7077 and Vista64 SP 1. Works fine.
