Hello. I recently installed a new GPU, and some more ram, going from 6(2gbx2+1gbx2) to 12(2gbx2+4gbx2) gb of RAM. I installed an am3 processor into my am2 socket ( I was under impression that because I had am2+ processor I had am2+ socket which is compatible with am3, but i have am2 socket. So after It didn't work, I put my old processor back in. My problem occurs a few minutes after startup, where my computer simply freezes in entirety, without any bsod. I am not sure what is wrong, I installed drivers for my gpu in safe mode, and I believe the amount of thermal paste I applied to processor was light. Let me know what possible solutions or ideas any of you may have. Thank you for reading this and I am happy you are happy to help.

Hello.
Try removing all RAM sticks from your computer and insert one then turn on computer see if it freezes :
1. if not,turn off the computer,add another RAM,check will it freeze >repeat
2. if it does, remove that RAM stick, try with other and so on then do everything from 1.

Also,is the new RAM same speed as the old one?
Different size and speed RAM sticks may not operate well together.

If this doesn't help then check your cpu, maybe pin is broken.

Too little thermal paste won't cause freezes ,heck computer would operate well until it would reach really high temperatures then it would turn off or restart.

Ok good advice. The ram is both ddr2, but the g skill stuff I have is probably faster than the 4gbx2 Samsung stuff I bought off eBay for only $15. I will try and report back. Most likely will just use the Samsung stuff because it is 8gb instead of 4.

The new 4gbx2 ram is 800mhz, and I believe the old ram is 1066mhz, judging from what I see on this label.

Yeah,it's 1066MHz.

Don't use different frequency RAM sticks.Mine suggestion..Fastest stick will downclock to same value as slower stick in your case 1066MHz will downclock to 800MHz,which may,in some cases cause instability.

Also,do they have same voltages,800MHz and 1066MHz sticks?

I don't know, but I believe we have solved the problem. I played a few games of counter strike with only one of the 4gb 800mhz sticks, and no issues presented themselves.

Thanks!
