OK...here's a good one. I know I'm missing one setting, one trick.

Installed my new SSD yesterday, clean install 7 pro x64.

I have two printers at home, both of which I used flawlessly before this new SSD and fresh install.

I am the administrator of the machine and turn off UAC.
I originally moved the temp and tmp directories to a second hdd, and since moved them back to the ssd. (Read that it that fixed it somewhere)

Both printers are networked.
One is an old trusty HP 4050N connected via LPT to a DLink DP300U print server.
Add it as a local TCP/IP printer, change the queue settings to match the printer settings, and add the HP 4050 driver. I get an error message (That I've researched over and over) I'm attaching it later.

Second is an HP Photosmart Plus (209a) that I have the latest drivers for, and is attached wirelessly. The HP bloatware/software sees it, detects it...but right before it adds it, it stops...with the same error message.

I edited the local security policy to enable the local administrator account status (I was an administrator before this).

Both printers give me the same error message. As said...they worked just fine on the install prior.

Here's the error message:

Gonna try next.
Frustrating it's the same error or each machine, regardless of the connection or type.
I think I'm missing something...not sure where.
I have two other PCs on my LAN, one is 7 Home the other is XP...both see them fine.

Printers hate me and my feeling is mutual towards them now days :P

Regardless I have 2 printers and 10 pcs on my network...

Direct install (Via LPT) still no luck.
I removed the print server, connected a LAN cable directly to the printer. Changed the settings on my other computer here, 7 home...and it is still printing fine.
My computer, no go. Does not finish the install.
Went to WU, found a new driver, downloads, errors on the install.
Stopped WU service, deleted update history, started service...redownloaded driver from MS and still same thing.

Frustrating!!!!!

I pretty much refuse to do a clean install again...I just did it last night. This is silly...and it worked before and it still works on another computer!!

Well...just goes to show you sometimes you should leave things alone.
I moved both temp directories (tmp and temp) back to C:\WINDOWS\TEMP and the printers installed just fine.
I didn't do anything else.

SO...fixed...and an FYI for all.
